    Toronto Rogers Centre Renovations | ?m | ?s | Toronto Blue Jays | Populous

Same opinion here- I'll attend either way. When the time comes- the fact that the team is playing two season in other parks certainly indicates it can be done again.

    Toronto Rogers Centre Renovations | ?m | ?s | Toronto Blue Jays | Populous

I'm not thoroughly convinced that Toronto needs a domed park if we're talking about a baseball specific facility. The only months that the weather would be dodgy would be April and Oct- and only the latter if the team gets into the post-season. The weather here is no worse than any other large...

Problematic Park Design - Why Some Parks Don't Work

Interesting walk-through and commentary. It's certainly not your tradition park with a lot greenery for respite and quiet contemplation. Lush it is not, but they don't always have to be of course particularly if they provide opportunities for other activities. But as you say it doesn't really...

    Evocative Images of Lost Toronto

On the subject of the CNE and diving it would be remiss not to include the diving horse! Pretty sure this wouldn't be allowed in these more enlightened times.

    Evocative Images of Lost Toronto

The old coach terminal and I think the Victory Building U/C in the distance.

Same difference- an inability to reach a higher standard.

    Public Art in Toronto

I quite like Coupland's pieces- which tend be playful and colourful. My favorite in Toronto is his fishing floats at cityplace, although the waterfront or islands might have been a better location.

    Public Art in Toronto

It might work better as a centrepiece for the square with trees and furnishing around the periphery. But I agree I the square itself is the problem here- an empty concrete space surrounded by dull architecture, and frankly bereft of anything that would entice people to hang around. A...

    Toronto Tower at Pier 27 | 114.9m | 35s | Cityzen | a—A

Quite like this one- the waterfront's most interesting condo by a long shot.

    Toronto The Gloucester on Yonge | 147.82m | 44s | Concord Adex | a—A

Yes Montreal generally does have older neighborhoods with a greater breadth of multi-family brick/stone dwellings which give the city a more urban feel and character- it's old apts with spiral iron staircases are well known. Toronto neighborhoods have more of a suburban feel with it's many...

    Toronto Daniels Waterfront - City of the Arts | 156.05m | 45s | Daniels | RAW Design

Nice- visual art and craft beer sounds like my kind of place. One can drink beer and dream about what could have been across the street.

    Toronto Forma | 308m | 84s | Great Gulf | Gehry Partners

Gehry apparently wanted it made of stone which would have taken this building to a whole other level. The facades are sometimes used for art displays at night- the residents in his towers across the street will be getting quite the lightshow on some evenings.

    Toronto Forma | 308m | 84s | Great Gulf | Gehry Partners

So much so that it has become cliche. I was never a huge fan of his more extreme deconstructivist designs- although I do like the Disney building with its stone and curving stainless steel planes that read more like a huge sculpture: I think his better work is more restrained and thought his...

    Toronto Forma | 308m | 84s | Great Gulf | Gehry Partners

The tower component in Gehry's latest project in downtown LA doesn't have has famous signature flourishes either. It does have that disjointed 'deconstructive' appearance that he is also known for- which is also seen in the Toronto design. Here's a link to a recent article...

650 Bay St Boutique Hotel Redevelopment (Lanterra, ?s, ?)

Apparently ownership belongs to "Bay-Elizabeth Construction Ltd. and Smye Homes Ltd." I assume once Federal land too as there was an ordnance depot here. It is listed by the DND as a location with possible UXB's.

    Toronto Forma | 308m | 84s | Great Gulf | Gehry Partners

These were early concepts for the podiums- I posted it to demonstrate the 180 they have have gone with it. You don't need to hire Gehry to build a curtain wall facade.

    Toronto Forma | 308m | 84s | Great Gulf | Gehry Partners

I'm still hopeful they go for higher end glass curtain, in this regard it will at least look decent. But the move away from the original cladding now opens up the possibility for cheaper window wall and spandrel. I'm also not convinced that it will be streamlined further, reducing offset...

    Toronto Forma | 308m | 84s | Great Gulf | Gehry Partners

The earliest ideas for the base were conceived to redefine the entertainment district- what an astonishing turnaround. Is this still a Gehry project?

    Toronto Forma | 308m | 84s | Great Gulf | Gehry Partners

It has lost the design elements that identify it as a Gehry project- particularly the signature organic ripples/folds replaced with patterned window-wall. I understand that the market isn't there for such an ambitious project, but still quite surprised at how conventional the glazing now seems...

    Evocative Images of Lost Toronto

The old Williamsburg Armoury in Brooklyn has been used for quite a few things over the years- more recently repurposed for movie/theatre productions- such as Jesus Christ Superstar. It's a huge beautiful old stone building- sadly the Toronto Armoury looks like it was even more grandiose with...
