That cinderblock addition is very bleak. They should raze it and start over - maybe moving the house a la the condo on Sherbourne and building 6-8 stacked townhouses east/west on the lot.

Is there a render for the condo project? Tearing down the addition and restoring the original house was always a pet project of mine for when the lottery funds kicked in. Maybe a 1/28 share would be OK?

I did an 'experimental' run by bike from Donlands/Mortimer to BMO Field to see whether it was a good method to avoid transit on our way to the rugby this morning. 90 mn round trip, very pleasant, so we're going to give it a try. The construction at Yonge and at Rees will be the pinch points. And...

Backyard chickens? Toronto thinking it over

A friend of mine that lives down Queen East near the streetcar barn has had chickens for years. Doesn't seem to have been a problem with the neighbours.

Closest big grocery store would be No Frills on Front in the old Sun plant. Princess st. Or maybe T&T on Cherry, which has lots of non-Asian stuff mixed in with the more exotic imports. A cheap bite out? King east, Queen east, Distillery, St. Lawrence are all walking distance - I'd say...

Food's good and the 45mn waits never happen anymore -- except lunch hour on holidays. I'd recommend it on a sunny weekday afternoon. Amsterdam still beats them hands down, though. Watermark is OK as well except when slammed.

That Monday was crazy, but I'd say by far the most dangerous part was the fast-moving bikers. We were biking, and you could move pretty fast west of the Radisson, but there were guys trying to gun through the crowds at the ferry terminal, which was just crazy. Fun day (with the exception of...

    Mayor John Tory's Toronto

But they do, right? If one buys a house or condo, one pays the LTT upon purchase. You don't get an exemption because you're a non-citizen.

    Toronto Ridiculous NIMBYism thread

So, 101 Unity has a back parking garage that disturbs their neighbours, but have...

    Toronto Ridiculous NIMBYism thread

If anything, the St. Pat's field would be as good or better for a mixed use pitch as it's right off Greenwood. My guess is someone with their backyard facing into the playing field got mad because now they'll have to walk their dog all the way over to the MP off-leash area, rather than him...

    Toronto Ridiculous NIMBYism thread

As a parent with a kid at Monarch Park, the quote that it's a controversial facility was out of the blue. Who is against the MP soccer dome? Why? The kids have been blessed with a great facility, and the biggest issue tends to be all the spring sports teams wanting to use it for early practices...

    Toronto Expo 2025

Hahahaha... OK. Here's my contribution: Build WaterfrontToronto's plan. It will be fabulous, even if we don't get to have soft-serve ice cream in a South Korean pavilion. Also -- Wisla, c'mon. There is NO WAY to justify building the DRL due to an Expo in the Portlands. They could put it in the...

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

I know I'm in the minority, but I've never really found the whole thing as bad as people say. For me, the biggest issue wasn't the Gardiner nor the Lake Shore, but the fact there wasn't a heckuva a lot to do once you got to the harbour. Harbourfront Centre was fine enough for a winter skate or...

I don't know when they 'buried' the Montreal expressway (it's in a trench rather than a tunnel most of the way, no?) but for someone who walks from Sherbrooke to Old Montreal, that trench/tunnel is as crappy an experience as walking under the Gardiner. IMHO. Also, their Olympics was a disaster...

    East Harbour (redeveloped Port Lands)

Skeezix, your question reminds me of when I posted a first neighbourhood link for West Don Lands. Depending on how you define 'East Harbour', I'd say that a chunk of the new Riverside Square, and definitely BMW / the ball diamond and tennis club south of Lake Shore / the housing south of Eastern...

Re-routing rail away from Don River -- what can be done to open up Don River Valley Park?

I'm with Beez - the Lower Don trail improvements combined with a better set of trail connections to Sauriol and Seton and Evergreen and take all the cash they'd spend on moving rail lines and Bayview to accelerate the Lower Don Lands park/spillway. And put in the gondola! If any of those green...

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

We had the opportunity to tear down the eastern Gardiner and didn't do it. We're not going to bury it, as it's too expensive and not feasible even if we could afford it. Can we move on? Has there been any new news on the naming of the Gardiner under-park?

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

    1. The part of the Gardiner that was proposed to be taken down was east of Jarvis. No one lives there. If you live at Cityplace or Bathurst or Liberty, the Gardiner is higher and has swung south of the tracks. Very different dynamic than east Gardiner. 2. It would have been cheaper to tear...
