GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

This is absurd. Streets, that is transit corridors, don't start and stop at municipal borders. For example, I often take the 68 Warden bus from Warden station to Highway 7 and Warden. Would you really have me get out of the bus at Steeles and wait for a YRT bus to come every bloody time...

What Megaproject(s) Would you like to see built next? (wackiness encouraged

I'd like to see a 600 km/h maglev running every minute from my home to my workplace with a stop at my favourite sushi restaurant.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Durham Region or Barrie Transit would seem like better choices than Newmarket. Not sure about Milton. Newmarket's transit is a pretty integral part of York Region Transit. There's a street median BRT under construction on Davis Drive right now, so it's neither dinky nor easily separable from...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

My understanding is that it's being reserved for construction staging so they have a place to put equipment, etc.

Finch Avenue West: Opportunities for Improved Bus Service

What transit causes are bursts of development around stations. I think people who say that are confusing suburbs with sprawl. Suburbs don't necessarily have to be the same thing as sprawl. It's possible to have pedestrian-friendly, compact suburbs. I'm highly skeptical of any connection...

    Transit City Plan

Indeed. It seems impossible to get transit built before it's an emergency. Queens Quay East was supposed to have a local LRT before the condos started going up. Instead, it's been delayed and the prospects for it under Ford are very grim. Waterfront West LRT was a Lastman plan to provide...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Back when the airport link was a public-private thing called Blue22, it was supposed to cost $22 per person and run non-stop between the Airport and Union station in 22 minutes. Now that's the private partner has buggered off and there are more stations, it might become cheaper.

    Transit City Plan

Are you including vehicle purchases and garage construction in either of those numbers? Viva is my usual example of BRT/pre-BRT because I ride it. I like what they are doing, but they are leaving the problem spots for last. They are: - Single tracking the busway at the Highway 7/404...

    Transit City Plan

My understanding is that, in some cases, political factions hire paid trolls to fill newspaper comment sections with their brand of insanity. I've seen a Craigslist ad hiring trolls to astroturf newspaper comments for a specific cause, and it fits into what I know about the less ethical side of...

Poll: What Should The New Eglinton/Scarborough LRT/Metro Be Called?

Let me toss another definition into the discussion: Subway - Anything with frequency better than every 5 minutes A lot of North American cities run their "subway" lines at 20 minute or worse frequencies at rush hour. Imagine the reaction on this board if we were to build an Eglinton subway in...

    Transit City Plan

What would be the staging for that? 2020: Eglinton central section and Scarborough RT 2025: Eglinton East 2030: Eglinton West 2035: DRL Pape to Queen 2040: DRL Eglinton to Danforth (Interlining to the east?) 2045: DRL Yonge to Roncesvalles 2050: DRL Bloor to Eglinton (Interlining to the west?)

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Well, the following renaming would make things less confusing, since the current Richmond Hill Centre Viva terminal is next to a mismatched GO station: Richmond Hill GO -> Newkirk GO Langstaff GO -> Richmond Hill Centre GO But this is just speculation.

Transit problems across Canada prompt calls for politicians to address issue

LOL. You know, I agree, Mayor Ford should do that. He should also take advantage of the federal election campaign to demand an answer from every party about what they'll do to shorten the average commute in Toronto as far as federal transportation infrastructure funding goes. However, I fully...

    Transit City Plan

I think the construction of Viva BRT on Highway 7 will legitimize BRT in Toronto. It's always good to have a nearby flagship line to point to. They are doing utility relocation for it right now. (The Mississauga Transitway stuff, OTOH, does not sound appealing to me at all. I dislike things...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Are you advocating for parallel bus service to the Eglinton LRT subway from day 1?

    Transit City Plan

I very much disagree. There are some great restaurants near Yonge St and Yonge Blvd that I can't easily get to because it's not walking distance from either York Mills or Lawrence stations. The city made a huge mistake by not putting in a Glen Echo station when extending the Yonge line north.

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

YRT does outsource drivers. Driving a multi-ton vehicle in stop-and-go traffic is not an unskilled job. It should pay more than highway trucking as a baseline. It also has terrible hours because a rush hour is not 8 hours long. My understanding is that many drivers need to work the morning...

    Transit City Plan

Spadina is the easiest major avenue to cross midblock in Toronto because there's a huge, relatively safe island in the middle. An LRT median turns a 4 lane street into two 2 lane streets. The same applies to the BRT medians in Curitiba, hallowed by BRT lovers. They make the streets much safer...

    TTC an Essential Service?

On one hand, I believe that government-funded transit needs to be at least as reliable as government-funded asphalt, so I support this change. On the other, the Fords seems to think that this will somehow magically reduce labour costs, which is misguided, so I'm worried what they'll do when...
