Allowing Prayer sessions during school time

In all my years in school I have never seen any school facilities used for prayer.

Allowing Prayer sessions during school time

Not complaining about accomodation, my complaint is with the use of facilities. This program ran for quite a while before it was reported, no? Things like this do tend to go under the radar.

    Absolutely not true.

Allowing Prayer sessions during school time

Not bad, but at what age do these kids need the time off? Is this a highschool thing only, or does it apply to lower grades?

Allowing Prayer sessions during school time

We can accommodate muslim students by giving them friday afternoon off, and they can make up the credit(s) lost some other way. We've accommodated other religious groups in the past by allowing their children to opt out of sex education, right?

Allowing Prayer sessions during school time

Religion should have no place outside of the home and place of worship. It has absolutely no place in government, and the idea of religious services being held in publicly owned property should upset every last one of you.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

You're not the only one disturbed by it. The rest of us just aren't surprised.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

If you want to blame someone for these anti-gay comments, then blame the media for escalating this issue. The multitude of articles on the subject has done nothing but give these people a venue to vent their views. Also, I seriously hope any comments about lynchings are just attempts at...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Rob Ford didn't create this. Come on. Skipping Pride isn't going to make people spontaneously develop feelings of prejudice.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Maybe not millions, but a lot of people do it. Ever been out in the country? I was quite shocked to see how many people drive home drunk. I would get told "well, the truck knows its way home." Terrible.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

I will agree these issues are coming up more and more, but I don't think Ford is a cause but rather a consequence. It seems as though there is something of a frustration in the middle class that is sweeping people like Ford and Harper into power, and will probably give Hudak a majority.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

It didn't suddenly come from anywhere. Its always been there. Look at the polls, yes acceptance has been rising but there are still lots of people out there who don't approve of gay marriage. http://www.torontosun.com/news/torontoandgta/2010/07/26/14835021.html -- Keep in mind this is the SUN...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Things like this will come up in any discussion on the subject of homosexuality, especially gay marriage.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

How exactly have we seen that its emboldened those who are prejudiced against gays?
  15. A

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Somehow I doubt that Rob Ford skipping Pride celebrations is going to cause an increase in violence against gays. That is just a silly argument.

How Can Toronto improve? How can Toronto become a better city overall?

We need more walk in clinics, and ones that are open late or all night.

Allowing Prayer sessions during school time

I have absolutely no problem with accommodations being made in the form of allowing students to switch their classes around, or make up for missed work. The problem lies in that public property is being used for religious purposes.

Allowing Prayer sessions during school time

This does not make it any more right. Secularism in our public institutions IS one of our values, and any religious interference regardless of which religion it is threatens that. I'm not sure how this relates to this issue.

Allowing Prayer sessions during school time

Historically, Canada has struggled with religion and inclusivity. Things like our funded Catholic school board are as the result of Quebec's Catholics voting en bloc in order to keep from being assimilated. Historically English Canada has wanted nothing more than to assimilate every other group...
