    Davenport West

They seem adamant about what they don't want but have yet to produce any sort of rendering or draft of their proposal. They haven't hired an architect yet, so it appears they are also pulling figures out of the air. They are being presented with an opportunity to really be a part of the...

    Davenport West

Carleton Village Public School Update It seems fighting the good fight just isn't enough. Makes you wonder though just how worried the TPS are having Chief Blair show up in "surprise visit." Many of the councillors were falling over themselves in a rather sickening display of brown nosing...

    S U B U R B I A !

Great shots, but yikes at some of those homes. Some of them are look like they're trying to cram every architectural style going into one house and those massive, over sized portals look ridiculous. Then again I'm used to living in house that's no bigger than one of those double garages, cheek...

    Davenport West

There are a number of locals, myself included, who are just spitting mad at that quote. The TPS have insisted that they want to include the community in development decisions, and we have been pushing for months to have this building preserved, because as unspecial as Mr. Mukherjee seems to...

    Then and now.

Interesting thread. I'm a bit of junkie for this stuff, although I usually end up vacillating between the thrill of seeing the comparison to feeling somewhat depressed at the downfall of many sites around the city.

    TDSB Schools Enrolment and Capacity

You're absolutely correct. The 1914 south building (pic attached) on Davenport has been purchased by the TPS for the new 11 Division office, and the photo in the earlier posting of this thread is the north building on Osler that's currently in use but was also listed for closure. It's also one...

    TDSB Schools Enrolment and Capacity

With reference to the photo's posted by Junctionist. The first pic of Carleton Village P.S. has had extensive maintenance work performed on it for the past couple of months and yet it's one of the schools listed for possible closure. If money is being spent (and it will be big bucks as it's...

    TDSB Schools Enrolment and Capacity

I can't back up this theory with any hard numbers, but I wonder if under-enrollment in some schools is due to their lower EQAO stats. The local elementary school in my neighbourhood is one slated for closure and has a pretty low EQAO rating and is running at only 60% capacity. This school has...

    Ultimate Suburban McMansions

I'm guessing none of the builders, buyers or residents of these oversized monstrosities have read or support the concept behind "Little House on a Small Planet."

Thanks Vic, it's good to get feedback like this so that we know the word is spreading. Green Here are also doing great educational work with neighbourhood kids, as well as working on asphalt removal from school playgrounds and increasing the green space for the kids. Good luck with your tree...

    The Junction

Hi Vic, Check out a post I put under "Davenport West" regarding a free native backyard tree for homeowners. The project area also covers the entire South Junction Triangle area. The post includes a web site link etc. This project goes until the end of May.

How to stop bicycle thieves in Toronto?

Too funny! Mind you, when my son was small, he had a bike just like that. We'd ride pretty much everywhere on our bikes and I used a Kryptonite lock on his bike. I think the lock weighed more than the bike.

Coffee House Blues? Your fave java joint please:

Wow. It's so strange seeing all the pics of Leslieville circa 2008. I lived on Laing Street another lifetime ago (between 1980 to 1986), and if you placed then next to now side by side you'd have a hard time making a connection. If asked where I lived, it was simply Queen East. I recall the...

How to stop bicycle thieves in Toronto?

Sorry for your loss. Igor's on Queen West was always a hotspot for stolen bikes. He'd vehemently deny it of course. As for bikes being stolen on a busy sidewalk in the middle of the day, my partner and I were walking on Bloor West near the ROM one lovely early summer evening when a bike...

I didn't make it for the walking tours today, but my friend and I stopped in for a spicy hot chocolate and a chocolate nut cookie at Delight, and were they ever delightful and yummy:):)

    York Mills

Great photographs! I know of the area, I'm not familiar with it, but it looks just gorgeous. With the lovely park-like setting, it looks more like an English country estate as opposed to just being very large homes on big lots in a city. I'll have to make a point of visiting one of these days! :)
