Why not try to play off of the unique landmark they've got here by adding brick and stone to the podium? Not every podium has to be an airy, insubstantial glass cube.
I love those old houses on Selby St., but damn will they look out of place after the Selby and the Rosedale on Bloor are built. They'll be surrounded on 3 sides by skyscrapers.
I can't see how this won't be an improvement over that apartment building that's being demolished now. It looked like an elementary school built in the '50s.
I guess the sales went well enough to warrant a phase 2 here. Hopefully this project is the catalyst that kickstarts development across the street at Woodbine Mall... look at the size of that parking lot for a mall that's in its death throes
This one will really stand out aesthetically simply by virtue of contrasting its surroundings. Most of the recent projects in southcore could learn from this.
I guess I'll swoop in here with another historical photo depicting the block junctionist was talking about (from 1898). Berczy Park is a great space now, but it really is a shame we had to lose a whole block of buildings just as beautiful as the Gooderham building to get it.
Here's the best picture I can find of the south side of King and Church, from 1856. This is looking east on King, you can see St. Lawrence Hall's cupola thing in the distance. Mind you, this is LONG before those parking lots, but still interesting!
