I'm uncertain how demolition of the historic building in favour of another generic condo is a great decision. Why do you have such a cavalier and dismissive attitude towards a unique structure? What is it that you hate so much about it that you want to see it relegated to such a degraded status?
Ginsberg & Wong was actually not bad. There used to be an excellent Italian restaurant "Tuscany" on John Street which was owned and operated by a Chinese family.
No no, I understood the local angle but being a bit of a purist at heart I bristle at the ebb and flow of geographical references... besides which, it was four sordid rooms.
Sorry about the highjacking Mustapha. No more Elsie chat from me.
She was actually Latvian though her sandwich board did say King, NDP, Sweden. She also had a fine array of harem outfits, including harem winter wear. I know I have a postcard of her somewhere. She was quite incoherent when engaged in conversation.
Judging by the south elevation, the new structure would extend out over the top of the present historical building. Not a very satisfying solution at all.
Not a lot has changed! Has anyone noticed the peculiar column capital on the far east side of the building at the NE corner wot is currently being renovated. Somewhere along the way, the original Corinthian capital went walkabout and was replaced by an odd ziggy-zaggy replacement of the same...
Wow!!! I had no idea that the European Bound store section was a remake - and such a good one too. Does anyone know when it was carried out? Thanks for posting Mustapha.
