    2018 Ontario Provincial Election Discussion

I didn't say they were doing it...I said they are presenting the illusion of it to appease the populace vote that still wants to believe it. The Ford Nation types. That's why we have a so-called left wing Premier killing a municipal road toll. The money can come from where it exists in the...

Which is why rental unit stock after 1991 is basically individually owned condo units controlled by market rates (with low vacancy rates because there is no new purpose-built rental housing). This is not doing the condo corps any good nor those who need affordable housing. The government is...

Agree that Hydro is something they shouldn't be messing around with....fix it. We have been complacent for a long time about it because we've enjoyed the cheapest power in the world for a very long time, and now just realizing that power is just as much a basic necessity as health care and...

    Toronto Massey Tower Condos | 206.95m | 60s | MOD Developments | Hariri Pontarini

Even I have to concede that the Strip many of us were lucky enough to know and love is already gone and it's never coming back. Time to move on. Just like 60's Yorkville and 80's Queen West, zeitgeist seems to have a shelf life, and 70's Yonge's has expired (Kensington...you're on notice)...

    2018 Ontario Provincial Election Discussion

As they say...one in the hand, is worth two in the bush. Road tolls are a sustainable, city-controlled revenue source, whereas promised handouts from upper levels of governments are not sustainable or reliable sources of revenue. Have we learned nothing???? Besides...who says it is...

    Cherry Street Nightclub

That quasi-libertarian type of attitude is quaint, but.... A: Giant nightclubs generally cause more problems than they are worth (like casinos). Didn't we learn anything from our Club District experiment? B: Violating others rights to reasonable enjoyment of their premises is a pretty black...

    2018 Ontario Provincial Election Discussion

Road tolls are less about revenue and more about political will. The fact that we can't accept road tolls as a revenue alternative means we aren't ready to acknowledge that we need to stop subsidizing car culture. If even left-wing premiers can't accept it yet, you know we are screwed for a...

Should Toronto bring in a London-style congestion charge for the downtown area?

Sadly, Toronto is not yet ready to give up subsidizing car culture yet. We will go on living in this bubble until it's waaaaaay too late, as the smart time to implement something was a long time ago. If you need convincing, look at how we are still humming hawing over King St. Instead of...

Couldn't disagree more. The marina aspect is a key ingredient of what made OP unique and great.

    Mayor John Tory's Toronto

Which version of Metro? It was a continuously changing entity from 1953-1998 (with 3/4 of the services handled by the upper tier by 1998). Sydney doesn't have a municipal government...that's why it is a vastly sprawled, poorly planned city. That mostly powerless little local government area...

Are there parts of Toronto with proportionally more native-born than foreign born visible minorities

While it represents a tiny area, I would bet the Toronto Islands have few if any foreign-born inhabitants. But it probably has few visible minorities as well.

It appears you don't understand the gist of my post. But that just proves my point.

Most of this is either not true or shows how schizophrenic were are in our thinking...it all contradicts itself. Where to start??? We have become addicted to our throw-away lifestyle, which is really more expensive in the long run. Our fast-food lifestyle is both more expensive and worse for...

Firstly, the Zeidler structures are excellent and rare examples of High Tech architecture and you would never remove them on that merit alone. I've never heard anyone describe Ontario Place as "ugly" before...very bizarre to hear that. But after last night, I suppose nothing will ever surprise...

I never said they were "starting" trends...I said they were extending already existing trends by way of the fact that they are a novel retailer and the most sheepish of consumers will buy in. Their own marketing material provides the evidence that they are attempting to appeal to every flavour...

Japan has unique domestic trends (which stay in Japan), but are late when adopting/mimicking north american trends. Having Japanese retailers means trends will simply hang around longer for those influenced by the novelty of Japanese retail style. Guess it's puffer jacket overkill for another...

You would have plenty of options. Use the existing Gardiner ramp. Use the existing Dufferin exit. At this point I would have the existing Ex Place roadways make a better link to Fleet/Lakeshore for those who want to remain on Lakeshore or turn at Bathurst or Queens Quay. Use all the existing...

Since I was replying to a post suggesting we bridge over Lakeshore Blvd where it bisects Ex Place and Ontario Place, let's assume "it" is referring to Lakeshore Blvd. I am suggesting that it would be better to eliminate Lakeshore Blvd between Dufferin and Fleet.

Why spend all that money when just eliminating it all together makes more sense. It, and the giant parking lots between EX and OP get developed and incorporate whatever road/transit grid required to serve the whole new EX/OP nabe.
