Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Great shot of King Street in 1912! Thank you!

I think this new proposal looks much better than the original. However, as others have said, launch is so far out in time that who knows what this will be in the end!

The photos of the dome really emphasise how much shorter Trump is than Scotia.

Looks like this thread and the Supertall thread are mirroring each other. What I posted there in a nutshell is that if this is true (which is far from being sure), this sounds like a BA-only proposal. I am not sure how BCE was indicated there at all.

    Supertall and near-Supertall Rumour/Speculation Thread

in other words this is not a BCE proposal. But who knows perhaps it is all just smoke, rumours from a conversation over drinks...

    Supertall and near-Supertall Rumour/Speculation Thread

Thanks for the renderings. If I am able to decipher the posts correctly, it sounds to me like both these towers with be at the BA site, with an expanded footprint including frontage on Yonge. Remember there are TWO towers planned there..the condo for BA North, and a second identical yet shorter...

ok relax..sheesh. point taken. So what about those other rumours from before the holidays..how about those?

    Supertall and near-Supertall Rumour/Speculation Thread

Perhaps move the retail-focussed discussion to the retail section? Any substance to all those supertall rumours from before the holidays? Looks like today's Massey news takes one of them off the table as it is only 60 storeys.

Great to see this proposal! And so glad those buildings will be saved. Would have been a good spot for an 80 storey tower as 50-60 is becoming the new norm but at least the buildings will be revived.

If true it will only be 9 feet short of ScotiaPlaza! and will look MUCH taller than Trump, whose claim to second tallest is a cheat anyways.

What "increasing restrictions on height"? It would seem to me we have fewer restrictions downtown than before.

    Toronto 88 Scott Street | 203.9m | 58s | Concert | P + S / IBI

The new rendering doesn't seem that different from the old rendering or am I missing something? re: debate about location..if not tall here, then tall where? And it is 58 storeys not 70. What matters is how it meets the street here..so far seems pretty good.

One would like signature buildings such as this one (and its height and location make it a signature site and building) to have architecture that is less banal. Don't get me wrong..I actually like the building, but it won't be one we will look back on and think of as a symbol of the city...

Population of Toronto (Including Census Counts)

Not to be nit-picky and I know it is not the point you are making but there is no such thing as "Metro Toronto" any more. Just the City of Toronto and the GTA.

What about shadows on Nathan Philips Square. While the extra height bring out the usual concerns?

    Supertall and near-Supertall Rumour/Speculation Thread

Maybe it is time after all to get that supertall at Yonge and Bloor, as this area evolves to become Toronto's Midtown equivalent.

haha you are right, they haven't started digging. But there IS a crane there strangely enough.

The crane has gone in on this one now.

Funny I don't think of these as "vacation properties" the way one would in say, Vancouver.

saw these from the Gardiner on the weekend. They have quite a dramatic presence on entering the city and at least they are not more boxes.
