GO Transit: Union Station Shed Replacement & Track Upgrades (Zeidler)

Some of the combined platforms will have over 2x more entrances, the upcoming platform configuration really will revolutionise the station

For example:
Platform 8-9 in its current state has 8 staircases and 1 elevator.
Platform 10-11 in its current state has 6 staircases and 2 elevators.

When the platforms are reconfigured, 8-9 and 10-11 will be merged into a single platform, with this merger an additional 4 staircases and 1 elevator will be added, for a grand total of 18 staircases, and 4 elevators.

Question: there's a lot of defunct exits with their portals still left visible on many of the platforms at Union. Is there any plan in place to reinstate any of these? Exiting a train at rush hour is absolutely excruciating, this station was built for a town of 100k people. Every single additional egress point from the ridiculously narrow platforms would be quite welcome.
Is there? I'd not noticed.

Do you mean the old luggage thingies?

When is this supposed to happen?
Once the USEP project is complete, all Lakeshore (East & West) trains (& some Via trains) will operated from its new platforms, freeing up capacity in the old shed. So, in theory, work could start on merging platforms as soon as USEP is complete. That work is part of the OnXpress design and build project as far as I know.

so anywhere between 2051 and infinite future?

This is the only unused platform staircase at Union, and it actually connects to an entrance in the Bay Concourse. I don’t even think it’s pre renovation, it just never opened for some reason
thanks, I didn't realize it was only one. Kept seeing it around without noting the platform number and thought there was a whole army of them LOL

Do we know the timing for the new platform configuration beyond the USEP changes?

Hmm. How many of those are there? Where did they go to? They aren't for baggage processing?

There’s one and it’s just a covered up staircase. I’ll grab a photo sometime over the next few days and show which entrance it’s connected to in the Bay Concourse
