Morning Parade on Dundas right across from Trinity-Bellwoods park. Cozier than it looks from outside!
#thorvibesCame for a cozy cafe, stayed for the shear muscle!
@rdaner Place is already DONEYes, they just opened recently but I fear they won't be around long. I pass by nearly twice a day and have never seen a single person inside. It also doesn't help that for a few days they already had a yellow DineSafe notice in the window a couple of weeks after opening.
I stopped in briefly a while ago as I was excited to finally see a German inspired business open downtown...but...I felt underwhelmed. A proper German bakery should be open at 6 am, practically bursting with fresh bread and other baked goods (think of the famous Dimpflmeier in Etobicoke), but the offerings in this place are very spartan and the hours are surprisingly casual. Do they even make their own stuff?? It was hard to tell as it didn't have that signature smell. Also, minus points for the hip hop music that was playing when I was there - that just doesn't create the appropriate vibe at all.
This place will be gone before Christmas.
The name "Simple Coffee" may be clue?View attachment 703124
The opening of the Good Earth coffee place at Queen Ashbridge reminded me to post about this truly cozy cafe that's a very short block further east. It is not just cozy because of its size, but also because it has become a strong social hub where everybody knows your name.
Sadly, they don't know my name because the coffee is regrettably bland and with the prices these days, it makes more sense to brew at home. Doubly-sad is that there isn't a decent cup of coffee within a 25 minute walking radius of this shop, so if they could get it together, they'd be filling a very large gap. It's really disappointing that you can get better coffee in a small village in Quebec or a park kiosk in Europe than in a lot of places in Toronto. This city is really invested in its bland, flavourless coffee.
