Toronto BMO Field Renovations | ?m | ?s | MLSE | Gensler

Not quite sure how that North Patio and Stand works? You can't have a stand AND patio as show - unless the patio rendering is showing what's on the underside of the seats.

edit: just read the North patio is how it will look after the WC has finished

Two additional entrance gates on the North Side is welcome news. Canada games have been a nightmare to get into at BMO as is, e.g. the Panama game in 2021 when thousands missed almost the whole first half.

From BlogTO: "Additional permanent changes include four new LED videoboards in the stadium's corner columns, self-serve technology at select concession stands, stadium Wi-Fi upgrades, a new centre-field lounge on the west side of the stadium, and a ticketed rooftop patio with a 1,000-person capacity set to open after the 2026 FIFA World Cup."

Nothing particularly exciting there, although the rooftop patio could be an interesting prospect for some if it's priced sensibly, like the new Blue Jays outfield area.

Not sure if these have been posted here, but here are some renderings of our Tick-tacked Soccer stadium for the 2026 World Cup:

News story up on these now, some of the items are permanent (yay). Permanent north stand renovations are very much welcome.

BMO Field will add rooftop patio, other new amenities permanently beyond 2026 World Cup

i can't help but feel very disappointed in this whole thing. When i first found out World Cup was coming here i thought it was going to be expensive but we'd get some amazing infrastructure out of it that will last. Things like a closed in subway line, and some better public transit. So far we're getting a bunch of temporary stuff, a permanent rooftop patio, the corners are still not closed in, and we are getting more than likely some temporary shuttle buses. So, lots of money and no improved infrastructure that comes with it.

I'm assuming that whole field-level bit of the North Stand patio moves for CFL?
The CFL field can expand into the highlighted area of the third rendering, shown below:

"i can't help but feel very disappointed in this whole thing" is the FIFA World Cup motto at this point for residents of host cities lol

That's generally how these large events work now and why most cities don't bid for things like the Olympics.

It's simply not worth it when it costs billions of dollars to prepare and host.

What most cities realize after the events is that long term profitability for venues is not guaranteed.

The host cities build infrastructure but unless you're Tokyo, Sydney or Paris most times the venues sit empty after the large events.

The Pan-Am Sports Center is an example of this. It cost a ton to build but it's not like we host global events regularly.

They bring alot of people in when they happen but afterwards not so much

BMO Field won’t be empty…it’s used by two sports teams and the stadium is embarrassing to say the least. This is “National Stadium” for both the Men’s and Women’s national teams.
