Great Canadian Products

Chapman's Salted Caramel Crunch was voted as the world's best caramel ice cream at the International Ice Cream Consortium (IICC) conference in Florence, Italy, back in November 2024.

Recently used a coupon to get this for free while it was on sale at No Frills. But was unaware of the title until I saw a post come up about it on IG.

And?? What's the verdict? You can't leave us hanging like that - this isn't the MCU 😝

I'd say it's a solid 8.5 to 9/10. I'm not quite worldly enough to verify if it should be considered "the best caramel ice cream in the world", but I genuinely found it delicious.

Chapman's "Super Premium Plus" line are pretty steeply priced though, about $5 for a small tub. But with the going rate for ice cream at these gourmet independent places like Ruru Baked and Bang Bang, then I guess it's somewhat in-line with those.

really? i found this version of the cookie dough was terrible - it had a weird taste

Chapmans is garbage ice cream. So is Kawartha Dairy. The only good ice cream in the average Canadian grocery store is Ben & Jerry's or Haagen-Dazs.

I'm wagering that you haven't tried the super premium line being discussed above.

It won an international award, its selling well, and @AlbertC gives it a 9/10.

Yes, their conventional product is on par with other conventional product where price is the key factor in product development.

The Super premium line is meant for a different customer willing to pay more for better.

Yes, Chapmans covers the price spectrum; their lower tier stuff is fine, perhaps slightly better than its competitors like Breyers. But you’re also supporting a decent company that values its workers.
Agree, and both Chapman's and Kawartha are small-town Ontario companies that should be supported.

Taste is so subjective and I am not an ice cream connoisseur, but either are quite fine by me - certainly not "garbage" in the excited language of today and the extra cost of buying a well known US brand simply isn't justified. If nothing else, I don't have to leave them on the counter for half an hour so I don't bend a spoon trying to dig into it.

I haven't tried the super premium line. I've been meaning to however.

Chapmans announced that they will absorb any increased costs due to tariffs for rest of the year to maintain the same prices on their products.

Maybe not exactly in the flow that this thread is intended, but the former design director of Arc’teryx’s Veilance line, has officially joined Nike as Vice President of Design Excellence for apparel, accessories, and equipment.

Top Canadian outerwear and apparel brands have a pretty reputable presence on the world market. Canada Goose is popular in northern parts of the US, Europe and Asia. I have a cousin from New York who previously worked as a manager for North American operations of the (what appears to now be defunct) Italian brand "Mr and Mrs Italy". And he had me order for him a Canada Goose jacket to analyze the product for their R&D purposes, because he said back then they wouldn't ship to the US.

Vessi shoes seems to be another brand that's trying to make a name for themselves.
