The Ontario Line was Ford's pet project that came out of his refusal to use the existing DRL plan. Which at the time Ford first took power was well along the way in planning. And it did receive criticism, both from Torontonians who were affected by the construction (see Riverdale and Osgoode)...
Flights are not indicative of the number of seats offered. Toronto to Montreal is flown by a majority of 130 seat a220's (yes there's the odd a330/b787/b777 thrown in). Flying fewer but higher capacity planes means more seats are offered.
I'll add, Milan to Rome is a roughly similar distance...
I've suggested ivy in the past. But I think I'd settle for a minor adjustment to some of the gates. Specifically I'm thinking gate 5/6, and to some extent 2/3. They could bump out the gates and give a more appealing entrance to the building.
Ouf. I stand corrected, there are another 8 stadiums with FieldTurf or a hybrid system installed. My Wiki Fu has failed me. That being said the wiki page for MetLife Stadium indicates that real grass will be installed for the World Cup Tournament per FIFA regulations/demands.
It's not that...
I believe the next phase of Union Station work should be the Union Station Streetcar loop. And at the risk of scope creep the Bay St corridor from Front to Lakeshore could be added to the project. I'm thinking alternate (southern) exits from the street car loop, etc.
The biggest factor for FIFA re playing conditions is artificial turf vs real grass. This was a well discussed issue with the Qatar World Cup.
Of the 30 main NFL stadiums all but 8 are natural grass. And of those 8, 1 is a fixed dome (New Orleans), 2 are translucent domes (Minneapolis, and...
Though I agree with your conclusion, why a 30 m width? Looking at a few HSR networks elsewhere I've found that it's typically 10 - 20 m wide for a 2 track ROW, and I don't think there's plans for quad tracking.
Much of the 401 corridor is surrounded by farmland as well. So if that's the...
My long held belief is that given how difficult new airport construction is, we should hold on to any operating airports as much as possible. Yes the Pickering airport was a near scandal, yes YYZ is operating (well) below maximum capacity now, yes there are alternative airports that are...
The only benefit I see this serving is for weekend travel. As the roads can become quite congested on weekends, particularly in the summer months with travel to cottage country (looking at you Hwy 400 and 404 HOV lanes). But honestly aside from maybe the midday period between the am and pm...
At least indicate where there are existing or mothballed rail lines that could be straightened out as the potential routes. This would at least give people something tangible.
Allow me to bring out my own personal proposal. If the mtcc is going to be demolished. Why not incorporate it into the proposed unnion station West at YYZ. It would instantly make the area a destination rather than a intermodal sorting terminal for YYZ passengers.
Mtcc is 700,000 sq ft...
