    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

The delay to the UPX blows my mind the most. It's the shortest stretch of track, with the most defective trains, and doesn't have the apparent issue of the union train shed. I suppose wherever maintenance takes place could present a problem, but it seems like the easiest project for electrification.

    Billy Bishop Airport Expansion?

This depends if you mean the subjective experience of the airport itself, or the time it takes to get there. I'm referring to the latter when I say convenient. I have run a bunch of options on Google maps and I can't find a drive, or transit trip that is shorter to BB than Pearson from North...

    Billy Bishop Airport Expansion?

One also has to acknowledge that Billy Bisop is no longer the convenient choice for the vast majority of Torontonians. I'm highly skeptical that a couple of added routes is going to make up for the drop in US travel, whats coming with ALTO and the fact that the shine is off the apple for most...

    Billy Bishop Airport Expansion?

I don't know anything about planes, but 10 meters kind of seems like a lot. That's roughly the height of my house. In any case, I think the noise argument against the airport is weak. Big cities have noise. I think the first good reason against it, is that it's a stunningly egregious waste of...

    Billy Bishop Airport Expansion?

If one were to accpt this list as analogos to Billy Bishop, which I don't, it would still be a small list. Downtown airports are rare becuase airports are accepted as a poor use of ones most valuble space. London City would have to be somewhere near Waterloo Station is to be comperable. Pheonix...

    Billy Bishop Airport Expansion?

I didn't limit the options to a park (which would still probably be more valuble.) How do we quantify the GDP something like Cental Park or the Chap the Mars? Because thats the opportunity were squandering. The benefits of Billy bishop are greatly exaggerated. The opportunity cost is generational.

    Billy Bishop Airport Expansion?

I am one again asking the governement to level this thing and make proper use of our most valuble real estate. Park? ew. Cultural institutions? Heck no. Housing? Over my dead body. Something accessible to the whole city? Good god. 4% of the city's air travel at an airport that is now harder to...

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

I have a hard time imagining what a meaningful concession would be in this context. The Star had a piece on some angry bee farmers near Vankleek hill. When I looked at their property it is already bisected by a set of train tracks. A lot of the complaints are completely unreasonable and...

Ontario Line Extension West of Ontario Place (Speculation)

There is also a ton of development slated for Dufferin and Eglinton as well as Dufferin and Lawrence. Not having looked at any data, I could buy the argument that there are more people on the 427 corridor, but with all the development pressure on Dufferin I don't understand the argument that...

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

His only interest in burying transit was because he thought it would improve car traffic. He was against streetcars because he felt they were too hard to pass when driving. He was famously unaware of which parts of the transit city plan were grade separated. I'm not a fan of the transit city...

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

I mean, most people complain about nearly every aspect of air travel. It's a broadly terrible experience that is only offset by the fact that you can travel across the country in one day. Generally speaking, it's a bad idea to import the worst aspects of air travel into the train experience...

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Do we know the first/last mile will be dysfunctional? I'm unaware of any formal decisions, but that would be a factor if it affects the ability to run different service patterns. And how many extra stations are we thinking? The southern route probably allows for, at most, 3 infill stations at...

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

While I'm at risk of rehashing earlier comments, I confess I don't entirely understand this line of thinking. Lots of effective HSR lines serve local communities, they just run express and local trains. The Shinkansen hits a ton of small towns. The express trains are certainly the backbone of...

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

I think Line 5 may take that prize. As for saving billions.... Our inability to affordably build transit extents to BRT as well.

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

I agree with this in my post. I just wanted to articulate that the idea that it'll be *barely* faster than the 36 bus, when most riders (most people travel during peak times) are going to see a 40% drop in travel times is just incorrect. Sure a late night bus that is only hitting a fraction of...
