Ford government moves ahead with plans to redevelop Ontario place | The Star I'm hoping for the best, but this article isn't terribly encouraging.

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

I like a few things, but overall this isn't good. The reduction in rent control along with reductions in government oversight are big problems. They can complain about the Liberals mishandling of the budget, but we're going to have to pay for a 12% reduction in hydro rates at some point. It's...

    Hurontario LRT | Metrolinx

"We have to eliminate the inefficiencies of the previous Liberal government and make sure we invest in efficient and effective transit projects that achieve the best value for our customer — the Ontario taxpayer. Our decisions will be based on what is best for the people of the GTHA, including...

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

Interesting that the Liberals, despite being decimated and losing official party status, are just a few points behind the PCs at 32%. It could be tough to win the next election, but I think they could be back in power by 2026.

    Amazon Second HQ

It depends on the company. Amazon provides people with things they want, so they're generally going to get the benefit of the doubt much more than companies like Exxon or Goldman Sachs.

TTC: Scarborough Subway Extension (formerly LRT replacement) (City of Toronto, Design Phase)

Why wouldn't it be? For the other projects, rapid transit stops weren't removed to implement them. There are already people wondering why it's only one stop, why they don't get more, etc. As long as it's an exercise in identity politics, people will always want more. Right. So we can save...

TTC: Scarborough Subway Extension (formerly LRT replacement) (City of Toronto, Design Phase)

The article is obviously not going to quote every single person that has a problem with the RT being removed. It's not like that they do that for subway supporters either - that's why I cited actual polls. It's certainly more valuable than Tory telling us a guy he talked to who said it will...

    TYSSE: Spadina Subway Extension (TTC)

The students of York will have to transfer? They shouldn't be treated like 2nd class citizens. We need a Line 1 extension to eliminate the transfer! ;) In all seriousness why can't there be a stop at York first?

TTC: Scarborough Subway Extension (formerly LRT replacement) (City of Toronto, Design Phase)

It doesn't seem so in this context: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/scarborough-subway-price-1.4003369 But of course it's an article. Of course, I'd argue adding the new RER stops doesn't really replace the RT stops, and the idea of it being 'more' stops is dubious at best.

TTC: Scarborough Subway Extension (formerly LRT replacement) (City of Toronto, Design Phase)

Based on what? Virtually every poll on a subway vs LRT came out roughly 50/50. I'd also suggest that no one dislikes the idea of a subway extension. Do they like a one stop subway extension if it means scrapping the RT at a huge cost? At a public meeting a year ago, people were very clearly...

TTC: Scarborough Subway Extension (formerly LRT replacement) (City of Toronto, Design Phase)

It would, but it also speaks to another issue - why is there a significant number of people in Scarborough who don't know what's going on?

    Mayor John Tory's Toronto

To be fair, this was happening long before Tory was elected. But it's also fair to point out he's done very little to address all of these problems in any significant way.

TTC: Scarborough Subway Extension (formerly LRT replacement) (City of Toronto, Design Phase)

Will it? Whatever one thinks of the Sheppard subway, it added a net number of stations to the system. This extension adds a subway station, but removes 4 rapid transit stops. You're right about the public debates around transit - unfortunately there are still quite a few people in Scarborough...

    Crosstown LRT | Metrolinx

Is there a source for this?

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

That's a good estimate. According to a Maclean's survey, the total average cost for a University student living away from home was nearly $20,000 a year (including tutition). That $40,000 in savings over the course of a degree is huge. Going away to University was much more of a possibility...
