Line 5 shutdown in effect;
Several of the supports holding up the overhead catenary have fallen down on their support poles, leaving at least four trains stranding on the wrong side of the surface section. Just the latest egg on Metrolinx’s face. 🤦
I wouldn't say they are solely to blame, but they are problematic because they serve to obscure the accountability mechanisms that should exist in a public service while failing to deliver the benefits they were claimed to provide. Nobody owns the whole problem, so nobody fixes the whole...
As I said, P3s serve to insulate those in power. Costs savings are always claimed to be the most important factor, as yet;

For one, there have been rumours for some time that this was seriously being considered, which would indicate ongoing tension in the relationship. Bus operations for instance are all in house, but there's a lot less that can go wrong there. That said, my guess is this was largely a negotiating...
I posted this on the reddit thread but will also post it here so as to better inform more people about how internal operational matters are dealt with over at Alstom
Re: Disciplinary Standards and Government Accountability.
Discipline is generally not disclosed since the crews work for a...
CN has always been pretty laissez-faire about that stretch. Nothing’s really been done down there in decades (if ever) to close things up and I doubt they’re going to start now since their trains are usually crawling through there anyway going in and out of the yards. From their perspective the...
I cannot tell you how many people I've nearly hit while operating through that section in Hamilton in the past, including one harrowing close call with a women carrying a baby. They're not going to up the speed to what you are suggesting, if they did fatalities would be weekly occurrence.
All correct, but it sure feels arbitrary. Especially when the thing looks almost exactly like the pole on top of Commerce Court West with the only differences in appearance being trivial in nature; It's placed in the exact center of the building rather than being offset and lines up with some...
This man gets it.
MX hates their whistle blowers and will go out of their way to try to figure out who they are and while I'm retired from the place some of my old colleagues aren't.
Just got my hands on a video of Monday's derailment, check this out;
Couldn't quite tell for sure because of the vid quality but it doesn't appear that any of the coaches derailed prior to when the rear truck of the last coach impacted the switch. But the loco could very well have already been...
Not sure that's entirely true as all the switches used to be thrown manually by large levers. There was a story one of the "older timers" told me long ago who used to work in the TTR in the 80's. Apparently they had very peculiar system in place that involved the use of bean or soup cans which...
To quote myself, I was wondering if any more recent projects in Toronto ever surpassing Scotia Plaza in this respect?
I'm bumping this because I just came across this video about 1515 Alberni in Vancouver:
The video was just released 4 weeks ago though apparently this excavation happened one...
Love that park, it's such a great vantage point to take photos of the city from. Here's a bunch I took from earlier in the year that I didn't get around to posting
