Well, from Google, that looks like a pretty scuzzy location; just a dirt parking lot and the yard office on the edge of a freight yard. Nothing screams attracting tourist dollars like like a muddy parking lot on a rainy day. I suspect they didn't like paying rent.

President Donald Trump's United States of America

I was being colourful. There absolutely is a process, protocol and chain of command for using nuclear weapons, but the 'launch codes' that the public is somewhat familiar with actually refers to strategic weapons deployed for continental defence. There a approximately 900 general/flag...

President Donald Trump's United States of America

Congress gave him an after-the-fact pass on that, which should surprise absolutely no one. The thing about going nuclear is there are a number of steps - and people - between his little brain and the Big Red Button. The military ones in that circle might cite US military doctrine about the use...

It's often called wanting to keep your job. Often, decisions of this type of scope are made at a fairly narrow part of the pyramid so leakages can be both contained and/or traced back to a manageable number of sources. If some guy/guyette on the shop floor posts something because he heard a...

It does not appear in the Business Plan. I suspect 'they' knew long before November - that's when I heard about it. Any multi-million acquisition by a government would follow a circuitous route of approvals, not only in terms of accounting but also in terms of politics, timing, etc...

    General railway discussions

If what you are saying is true (and knowing that sounds super nerdy), there could be all sorts of reasons. Economy, safety culture, wear and tear, and on and on. As we know with autos, a higher reliance of tech can complicate maintenance. North American freight locos haul a lot more tonnage...

President Donald Trump's United States of America

It's an interesting thought exercise, but if Trump tried to order nuclear weapons in a non-defensive act, I suspect many in the chain of command (the ones they haven't yet fired) might dust off their oath plaques.

I, too, have a 'connection', but respect his confidentiality unless he specifically waives it. For example, I knew about the Newmarket sub purchase back in November.

    PM Mark Carney's Canada

Looks very similar to a ranked ballot system.

When the discussions in your head get written down in a public forum, expect comment (or to be ignored). I wasn't aware that I was describing the system as "ridged" [sic], or even rigid. But it does need political will - and money.

Apologies. I mis-read the link as 'port' not 'hub'. It is clear in the link the proposal has nothing to do with a land-marine interface.

It was a general comment, not limited to container service. Toronto apparently found more waterfront value in condos.

No, the reality is rail lines were abandoned because they lost their revenue base, which is freight. I can think of no rail line that relied solely on passenger service for revenue. Even in areas of high frequency and ridership, passenger rail is still subsidized. But that's the crux of it...

A city that still sees commercial value in its port. Imagine that.

Road Safety & Vision Zero Plan

Some US states have annual mandatory safety inspections tied into registration renewal. I have heard of one (possibly Virginia or West Virginia) have banned non-OEM headlight bulbs and will fail them upon inspection.
