A new Jane Line is a better option in my opinion. Same with Dufferin.
Most metro lines start in the core and expand outwards, but in the case of Jane it could be build in the opposite direction with the first phase spanning from Jane-Steeles to Jane-Eglinton or Mount Dennis. That first phase...
This thread is indicative of how much transit Toronto still needs in my opinion. It comes down to three options really:
Dufferin
Jane (via Dundas West)
Humber Bay (via the Queensway)
Most suggested routes try to combine two of these options by routing or branching instead of picking just...
Yes I know I literally referenced this document. We’ve already discussed this, but I’m more interested in what’s next excluding LRT and BRT.
Obviously Ontario Line North and Sheppard East are the most obvious next extensions. This doesn’t need to addressed again. The more interesting question...
Excellent point.
However, excluding the Waterfront East LRT (streetcar) it is difficult to see what that next major project would be for the core of the city after the Ontario Line.
North (North York):
1. Ontario Line north extension to Steeles (≈ 10.5 km)
2. Line 4 west extension to...
I thought this was already green lit, wasn't it? Aren't they rebuilding the Queen's Quay station at Union to accommodate the WWLRT?
If not then absolutely.
Yeah it’s because they’ll most likely wait until the next election to announce them. Those extensions run through some of the most important ridings. I just try to look at it from their perspective. What major projects buy the most votes in key ridings? What info has leaked that gives us an idea...
Good question. Admittedly I know less than nothing and of the four I listed this might be the most difficult to actually green light. I just feel that it’s a project that buys a lot of political clout that almost everyone wants to happen.
It's more likely that the next batch of projects announced by the Ford Government are:
Ontario Line North Extension (Eglinton to Steeles ~10.6 km)
Sheppard East Extension (Don Mills to McCowan / STC ~7.4 km)
Sheppard West Extension (Yonge to Sheppard West ~4.4 km)
Eglinton West LRT Airport...
Oh I have bad news for you, unfortunately we're well on our way to doubling the existing subway system.
Line 1 - 38.4 km
Line 2 - 26.2 km
Line 4 - 5.5 km
TOTAL - 70.1 km
OL = 15.6 km
SSE = 7.8 km
YSE = 8 km
Line 5 (tunnelled/grade separated portion) - 10 km
Line 5 West - 9.2 km
Line 5...
This is just the prevailing ethos in the GTA. We’re in the vast minority. The majority think this way.
Should Finch West have been a subway? No of course not. Would it have been better idea to BRT? Probably.
Does Toronto need more subway lines? Definitely. How much more? 2 or 3 times as many...
How did you come up with these numbers? Are you taking 30 years of operating costs & maintenance into consideration? Are you assuming the whole line would be buried? I don't think burying Line 6 was ever realistic.
3 options.
1. BRT for $30 million/km
2. LRT for $350 million/km
3. Elevated...
Voting on or in favour of TSP in not really encouraging to me, nor is it a sign that there's a shift in suburban mentality or a shift in city councils approach to prioritizing transit.
I don't think you can change the ethos without changing the built form of those suburban streets ultimately.
