I completely agree. There is no worse suggestion than naming station or anything else after people. Hopefully we’ve learned why. We don’t need another Hazel McCallion D.U.I. LRT
Nice map. Something like that would have worked well.
I do think branching could work on Line 2 or any subway line in Toronto, but not with how they build lines here like the TYSSE or the SSE. It's got to be elevated or built pragmatically to reduce costs. 36m is plenty of room to do so.
Ok, but then that begs the question of why make it a separate Line at all?
At that point they might as well elevated all Line 5 east of wherever (the DVP or some other place), rebuild Kennedy and have Line 5 continue east from there.
I've also heard that elevated light rail is or at least...
If this were fully grade separated/elevated then maybe your estimate will be close to accurate. I don’t know, it’s difficult to gauge the cost of anything anymore so who knows.
Both could in theory warrant their own separate metro line and if each had their own metro line would the OL even need a western extensions?
Hard to make a compelling case for any one specific route over another suggested in this thread. I get that extending existing metro lines is much easier...
Same. Worked at Downsview last year and noticed the same thing on my commutes. It's a severely underserved part of the city.
A lot of people here want the western extension to serve Dufferin south of Eglinton and Jane north of it. That routing does makes a lot sense.
I feel like Line 4 should...
Nice map. Something like this could work in theory.
Would an extension that combines Dufferin and Jane be more likely to be built?
Would it be much cheaper than building two separate lines?
Just curious why so many people choose combining Jane and Dufferin?
I get that Dufferin north of...
SRT was elevated above grade. Most people are fine with Line 5 being called Line 5. Line 6 however should not be named line 6, there’s no way to justify it. Every other city would name Line 6, the 509, 511 & 512 something like T1 or L1.
It’s ok to admit it was poorly named.
A new Jane Line is a better option in my opinion. Same with Dufferin.
Most metro lines start in the core and expand outwards, but in the case of Jane it could be build in the opposite direction with the first phase spanning from Jane-Steeles to Jane-Eglinton or Mount Dennis. That first phase...
This thread is indicative of how much transit Toronto still needs in my opinion. It comes down to three options really:
Dufferin
Jane (via Dundas West)
Humber Bay (via the Queensway)
Most suggested routes try to combine two of these options by routing or branching instead of picking just...
