Bah, i miss the good old days when the strip was full of hookers and pot heads. Just kiddin', this is a nice building.

Where did all of Toronto's hookers go? I remember just a few short years ago Yonge Street, Jarvis and Church Street were crawling with working girls and now they have all disappeared. I guess the internet and the Sun newspaper (if you can call it that) are responsible for the change.

Yes thanks to the internet, the streetwalkers are now "escorts" and meet clients in fancy hotel bars and lounges for "business" That's where the good money is.

<wayofftopicofthisinterestingbuilding>I've been walking up and down Yonge since the mid-80s and I can't remember it ever crawling with hookers. Maybe there was the occasional lady hanging around the entrance of the Zanzibar but in my memory that was infrequent. I was never much around Jarvis or Church (back then I lived to the west) at night, so don't know about them. Church is a vibrant street now, wouldn't accomodate much of that traffic cruising around the block. From news reports of unfortunate events, I'd guess much of the activity now happens in Mississauga around the airport. </wayofftopicofthisinterestingbuiding>

Yeah, especially walking to the Smoke's off Dundas. Regardless, the Ryerson Builds website says the new café (Starbucks) will start construction this month, and a large chunk of the interior space is now completed. Some of the pictures of the space looks quite nice.

I live on Jarvis and there are hardly any hookers at all now compared to ten years ago. There are still a few that hang out on Homewood, but even they're there less frequently now

Hookers are now running their businesses in condos. There are a number of operations in Cityplace along with other newer condos. Makes sense.

Yonge Street was a major hooker/strip joint/drug/drinking/porn movie etc shady place back in the 1970's. When shoeshine boy Emanuel Jaques was sexually assaulted and murdered in one of the buildings near Dundas in 1977 the city decided to clamp down on the vice (though I'm sure the newly opened Eaton Centre had an influence on this). The police drove the hookers off of Yonge which is why they all ended up further east on Jarvis or Church by the 1980s. The Harvey's at Jarvis and Gerrard was for the longest time called Hooker Harvey's.
