400 foot List

Hey, right now Toronto has 40 proposals of structures over 500 feet/152 meters...(14 of those over 650 feet/200 meters)
In these crazy times......., any prediction of which ones dont ever get off the ground.

I will just add a mad:mad:icon to those............i will also add a smiley:) on the ones that i think are 50/50 of getting built, and nothing on the ones that have every potential to get built

This may not be entirely relevant to this thread but I can't find similar topics anywhere else on the forum:

I'm sad to see a lot of these tall buildings being built (or are proposed to be built) right next to other equally tall buildings, meaning the views of at least one entire side of each of these buildings are going to be someone else's unit or just a wall. Not to mention a bunch of other problems such as blocked sunlight, shadows cast onto surround streets, etc. Do Urban Planners of the City take this into consideration? Has anyone thought about staggering the heights of adjacent buildings? Is there any forum/committee/organization where citizens can collectively have their opinions heard and actually be able to make a difference?
 
Interesting note... Right now (according to Wikipedia) there are 71 completed buildings over 400 feet in Toronto.
And the U/C list of buildings over 400 feet in Toronto on Wikipedia has 23 buildings (the list includes Aura, L Tower, Hullmark, One Bloor, Ice 1&2, etc). Which means we will have 94 building over 400 feet built in the next 2-3 years. But the U/C list on Wikipedia is incomplete and is missing some projects. The list is missing the following buildings that are U/C or are about to be U/C that I have noticed:

-RBC Waterpark Place (460 ft)
-Pinnacle of Adelaide (444 ft)
-Peter Street Condos (427 ft)
-100 Adelaide West (??? ft)
-Studio2 on Richmond (430 ft)
-Chaz (479 ft)
-Bisha (466 ft)
-Habour Plaza 1&2, 1 York (764 ft + 734 ft + 576 ft) (Are all 3 buildings here about to start construction? Or just the condos? Or just the office tower)?
-Pace Condo (487 ft)
-Bremner Office Tower (442 ft)
-Charlie (403 ft)
-Quartz at Cityplace (not sure of exact height, but its 41 stories)
-Nautillus (456 ft)
-Picasso (406 ft)
-Tableau (410 ft)

Which means within 4 years or so, we will have 111 (71 built + 23 U/C + another 17 U/C in my list above) buildings over 400 feet built in Toronto.
Of course my list up there may be incomplete as well, and might be missing some projects. Also the heights I have there can be corrected if needed. It would be great if someone could help by adding in projects that I may have forgot, or making other corrections (heights, whats under construction etc).

Furthermore, this list doesn't even include:
-proposals such as super-tall and near-supertall projects like the Oxford Place, 1 Yonge, 45 Bay, The 3 Mirvish Towers on King West etc.
-other tall projects (Massey, 88 Scott, Eau du Soliel etc) which are only proposals or may be approved but don't have shovels in the ground as of today.
-Mississauga projects.
-smaller infill projects.

These numbers alone are fascinating for the city. Going from 71 buildings over 400 feet as of today, to potentially at least 111 buildings over 400 feet in about 4 years or so is extremely impressive.

Again, please correct my numbers or anything else that needs to be corrected. I would sure appreciate it. Thanks! :)
 
According to SSP, there are 72 completed buildings 400 feet or higher in Toronto, 39 under construction, and 85 proposed (in addition to 1 stale proposal, Brookfield Place III). This suggests that when all the under construction buildings are done, there will be 111 completed buildings, the same as in your list.

Amazing. If those 400 footers were actually 500+ feet...We would then have more 500 footers than Chicago (they have about 108 right now).

interesting how Toronto is beating Chicago in the 650+ ft department (by 5-7 buildings, depending if the Icon or 100 Adelaide West are over 650ft), and is only 4 behind in the 600+ ft area, but yet is so far behind in the shorter heights like 400ft.

I agree. And we all know Chicago had a head start when constructing their buildings, but now T.O. is slowly closing the gap.

So many developments!

Does anyone maintain a graveyard of defunct and stale proposals? Sapphire Tower and the old Bay Adelaide Centre are probably the most well known, but there must be hundreds of developments that have failed to materialize over the last couple decades?

Why 400 feet?

What is the significance of 400 feet? Is it a zoning height restriction? A convenient comparitive measure?
