Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

Trudeau was literally followed for many months at public events by a crowd of F*** Trudeau types that would scream obscenities, etc at him and on at least one occasion, throw rocks at him.
I get that. I am not really sure what this has to do with provincially here outside of that extreme hate on being one sided. Nor would anyone stoop that low voicing their views against Doug I gather. And we wouldn’t need to.

I am not sure what you are meaning here…

…but I will say that being critical of government is not hate. Being critical of government in bad faith on the other hand….well let’s just say it’s problematic.
When PP became leader of the CPC, he unleashed allot of hate or attack tweets and FB posts against Trudeau and some of his CPC MPs did the same like Larry Brock. Ford got none of that from anyone at Queens Park.

Yes, what was done here was horrible. Even worse, many voters were buying it…despite all evidence out there that they should have stayed clear of it. I mean, if it’s waving “I am with the fascists” flag…we as a country priding ourselves on freedom and democracy shouldn't be going there regardless of how asinine the current sitting government at the time is. We should never want to vote for the worst of the worst…

…that said, I still don’t know what this has to do with Doug outside of saying, “Of course it is!” /sigh

A couple of very large announcements out of the province today. I'll give them each their own post so people can quote more easily.

First up, post-secondary funding, the province is more or less making Universities and colleges whole from past underfunding and the loss foreign students.

From the above:

Quick highlights: Funding gaps resolved, tuition to rise by 2% per year for the next 3 years, and by inflation or 2% whichever is less thereafter, and OSAP restructured to be 75% loan, minimum and 25% grant maximum.
If Ford thinks post secondary students should focus on STEM, healthcare and the skilled trades, why not keep the OSAP grants for programs in those fields? Also, the provincial government could look at limiting tuition increases in such fields. Students will then be financially incentivized to consider them.

Because that would make sense. But I've my suspicions that Ford's motives have always been more about decimating universities than actually focusing on trades and college-only education.

Interesting group of participants!

They only want the rich to get university education. They want the poors to go into the trades
You think people working in skilled trades are poor?

There has long been a stigma associated with the trades that it is for poor and/or uneducated people. I worked in adult education, including pre-apprenticeship training, for a long time, and we tried valiantly to encourage schools and individuals to take a good look at the trades because yes, the work can be quite lucrative. It also isn't for uneducated people -- you need a significant skill set to qualify for an apprenticeship. Everyone wants their kid to be a doctor or a lawyer when they should really consider the trades -- a successful tradesperson is a good thing!

An example of a trades millionaire...

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Holmes#Background

Mike Holmes began learning construction from his father starting when he was six years old. By the time he was 19, Holmes had started his first contracting company with a crew of 13 employees. At 21, Holmes founded his own renovation company. He has run two companies during his 20-year contracting career.

But I certainly know a number of electricians, plumbers, HVAC, carpenters etc who have done quite well. It's hard, physical labour, but it's a great career.
I was chatting with my female friend about this today, and they said there's nothing she likes more than a man with calloused hands and no debt. So, if you're into the ladies fellas, the trades might be your in.

Just please wear a belt, no one wants to see a coin operated tradesman.
