Toronto Forma | 308m | 84s | Great Gulf | Gehry Partners

I'm pleased that we're getting a "Gehry-lite" here. I've personally never been much a fan of his more outlandish designs, but it seems like we're getting the best of both Gehry flair and "conventional" design here. Also, those reflecting city lights at night look fantastic!
Same here. My personal preference with skyscrapers tends towards boxy modernism, hence my affection for FCP and buildings of its sort, though even better are all those gorgeous old art deco buildings with all-brick and setbacks, of which we sadly have virtually none in Toronto. These Gehrys are effectively boxes, with offsets and very interesting metallic cladding.

I've been involved with a lot of structural fab work over the years. Jig design and manufacture costs $$$. You aren't going to create a large quantity of variance if only to few skyscraper enthusiasts notice. I would say generally we are lucky to have this tower, and so far, it's looking impressive compared to the norm in this city for high rise residential construction.
No! Every panel has to be unique!

Today. The 5th floor south side panels were added overnight. I have not seen them doing cladding work during the regular construction shift (7am-3pm). Perhaps they are utilizing the main tower crane to lift these pieces and they have to schedule the work in shifts.

Overnight installation also likely simplifies logistics, since they can drive up a series of flat bed trucks on King and just hoist straight up.

Well... darn. We kind of all knew he might not see these built. I had my hopes up that he would.

The man has a sense of humour. I really do hope Gehry lives to see this built — he's 97. Perhaps that's why it's accelerating. I don't recall seeing anything built at this speed in this town.

Developer:
"Sir, this is Toronto, I'm afraid to tell you that this tower will take about 5-10 years to be built."

Developer:
"Ok sir, we'll hurry up."

This project started over a decade ago but was held up by red tape in a town afraid of dreaming big. So yeah, I like to believe that this is what Frank is thinking of Toronto's bureaucracy wherever he is right now:

RIP Frank.

Rest in Peace to this irreplaceable titan. Some of the most remarkable buildings he has ever designed are here in the the States, and I am pleased that Canada is not only receivin’ his tallest ever project in the world, but the fact that he desired it in his hometown and home country must have held significant meanin’ for him. I am grateful that he was able to witness its construction before his passin’. Go ahead and approve Forma West, in his honor.
