Geary Avenue

Toronto's Geary Art Crawl 2025 Postponed Until Spring

Geary Art Crawl — the street festival featuring art, music and more that runs down Toronto's Geary Avenue — is pushing its 2025 iteration from September to March of next year.

The festival, originally scheduled to take place September 20–21, will now happen March 7–8, 2026, according to a social media post by Geary Art Crawl's organizers. "The truth is that producing a festival like this, especially without big sponsors, a BIA, or corporate backing, is a delicate balance," they wrote. "This year, unstable funding and major park construction along Geary tipped that balance in a way that made September unrealistic."

In lieu of the September festival, local businesses along Geary will host the Geary Block Party on September 20, independently from Geary Art Crawl.

No big changes but a lot is smaller ones. More restos going in and the buildings along Dufferin near Geary are steadily turning their ground level spaces to retail. Finally an extensive renovation happening on the south side where the park is located. Taken 7 September.

86 GEARY AVE

To alter the existing two-storey commercial building by constructing a complete basement addition, as well as side (east) and rear two-storey additions. This building will contain an eating establishment use. There will be no residential dwelling units on this lot (instead of three residential units).

let the hipsters and artists come in and make it cool, and then let the alo yuppies take it over!
...and ruin it. It's a sadly predictable sequence of events that we've seen countless times in Toronto over the decades. Unfortunately, there aren't many areas left for yuppies to destroy...

Yes, and I must say this is common in most cities in the world. Here in London (uk), we see this a lot. Especially with parts of hackney and especially shoreditch. I am from Toronto and I think when one area becomes cool, it ends with it often having an array of amazing dining and nightlife spots (which do not always echo in their more alternative origins) but are still quite nice. Then you guys will have to trek all the way up to Castlefield after Geary is over! Tons of mediocre areas that could use some injection in Toronto.

Cawthra Ave over in the Junction area has sort of developed into a mini Geary, while getting a lot less coverage.

Meanwhile, I've felt the stretch of Weston Road south of Eglinton in Mount Dennis is ripe for indie retail with all those available units along the strip. Perhaps one day once Line 5 eventually opens we could see more interest in revitalizing that area.
