President Donald Trump's United States of America

Only after demanding the prosecution of Bill Clinton and others listed in the files. Which of course, makes the files evidence in an ongoing investigation and not subject to public disclosure.

Mike Johnson will only support measures to release the documents if changes are made.

If I had to fathom a guess, he's saving his skin along with that of his colleagues should something be uncovered.

This week, the world was reminded of an important lesson. If you stand up to Donald Trump, he will back down because, like most bullies, Trump is really just a coward.

Four courageous GOP House members stood up to Trump and forced a vote on releasing the Epstein files. Faced with a recorded House vote, dozens of republican House members pledged to support the release of the files because none of them wanted to have on their voting record that they protect pedophiles.

Facing a certain defeat in the House and likely the Senate, Trump reversed his stance on releasing the files. Yesterday, all but one GOP House member voted to release the files. It got even better. The Senate rushed the bill to the floor, where it was passed with unanimous consent without any amendments! Of course, it is not over yet. Trump could still veto the bill, but if that happens, I think in a revote, a veto-proof majority should be possible in both chambers. Who would change their vote?

This is how you deal with Trump. You stand up to him. Reps. Massie and Greene endured Trump's vicious attacks, including threats to their lives, and stood their ground, and the result was total victory! Donald Trump cannot stand defeat. Donald Trump always needs to have a "win". Confronted with a certain defeat, Trump folds like a cheap suit.

Do you think Canada's "fearless leader" will learn from this lesson and grow a "pair" and, for once, stand up to Trump? Somehow, I doubt it. Carney apologized to Trump for something that he had nothing to do with - Doug Ford's Reagan ad. What do you think? Will Carney ever stand up for Canada, or will Canada's economy continue to BLEED OUT under Carney, who continues to repeat the BIG LIE that Canada has the best "deal" of any country - 85% of our exports to the US are tariff-free.

When Trump started his tariff nonsense with Canada, we could have confronted Trump with CERTAIN DEFEATS, like 100% export tariffs on our potash and 50% export tariffs on our oil. We could have shut down the North American automotive supply chain until Trump dropped ALL tariffs on Canada, after all, the Americans have a big trade SURPLUS in goods and services, and we sell them our oil at a massive discount. Instead, our "fearless" leaders cowered, and for almost a year now, Trump has been bleeding out our economy by a thousand cuts.

US federal workers would lose whistleblower safeguards under Trump rule

President Donald Trump's administration is close to implementing a rule that would end long-standing legal protections for whistleblowers among senior federal employees, according to documents reviewed by Reuters, prompting backlash from lawyers representing government workers.
The rule, if finalized, would follow Trump's April proposal to change employment standards for federal workers and build on a series of actions by the administration to minimize dissent across the government.

Fascist is as fascist does...

he can't veto a bill that passed unanimously. He can only veto if the vote is less than 2/3. (There are other ways to stop the release involving the DOJ, however)

He can try but it would make things worse for him.

If he tried to use the DOJ to override a veto, it would raise alot of questions as to why.

The DOJ can claim there is an active investigation (he told them to investigate Democrats including Clinton) so the files can't be released because they could compromise the investigation. This is what happened before, and it's a likely scenario for it to happen again. The difference this time is that we now have a lot of emails from the estate available, so there is a lot more information out there.

And I misspoke a bit -- he can refuse to sign the bill, but Congress would then use a 2/3 majority to go ahead anyway, so there is no point to not signing.

No, he can veto it. Congress can override the veto afterward with a 2/3 vote from both Houses.

Sure, it seems likely in this case that Congress would find 2/3 to override it. But then again, I don't think anyone expected such an overwhelming vote on this issue, so who knows what might happen.

Yes, I restated it. A veto is meaningless in the face of unanimity so even if he is being a twit about it, it won’t matter. The DOJ’s actions are more important at this point.
