Yup agreed. All value engineered to the max. For the REM imo this is acceptable cause at least they got platform screen doors and true rappid transit. For crosstown....well the less said the better.

It may not be apparent in the photos but there’s actually a lot of time and effort being invested for art installations at each station.

Starting in 2023 the REM commissioned local artist teams to create a unique installation at each of the REM stations. They were supposed to be temporary installations but later were made permanent due to popularity with the public.

I have a close friend who - together with her art class at UQAM - created the art installation hanging from the ceiling of the Gare Centrale REM station. I agree that stations can be bare bones, but there’s ongoing efforts to work with local artists, architects, and non profit organizations to beautify each station in the network, while not having to break the bank (my friend’s project was funded in part by UQAM, CDPQi, and some private donors).

It just may not be apparent from day one because they decided to install these artworks after the opening of each station.

That's amazing to hear. Though to be fair, the crosstown has several pieces of artwork that have been ready for years. I suppose we'll see them some day

Don’t know a single Montrealer who calls it light rail. In English it’s just “the Rem” or “le REM / metro léger” en français for the love of god 😂

The Crosstown is called a métro léger in French on signs though.
 
The tunnel boring machine for the Blue Line extension has arrived. It will be assembled in 10 days according to the video. (or assembly will start in 10 days. My French is not strong)
According to the construction director, building the stations and rail will be from 2028 to 2030 with the opening planned for 2031.

Something I didnt notice until now is that planned service on the Deux Montagnes branch on opening will end after 9pm on sections further than Côte-de-Liesse station.
When it opens, the REM will be available from 5:30 a.m. from both Deux-Montagnes and Brossard. Importantly, the last REM train heading to Deux-Montagnes in the evening will leave Brossard at 8:30 p.m. and Côte-de-Liesse station at 9 p.m.
