Plenty of speculation on whether John Tory will run again. But in September 2025, he’s dithering, but still feels like there’s “unfinished business.”

Meanwhile, Bradford Bradford is expected to run again, with this ridiculous Toronto Sun front page yesterday.

Sadly, people will vote for these bland white men. Tory should just go away. His years set the city back. Bradford has decided his path to power involves embracing hard right tactics/policies.

The former Mayor John Tory, was the Ontario Progressive Conservative leader, September 28, 2004 – March 20, 2009.

Now his son, John Tory Jr. wants to run for the federal Liberals.

See https://www.thestar.com/politics/federal/john-tory-jr-son-of-former-toronto-mayor-john-tory-wants-to-run-for-the/article_d7df8ae9-a0ec-48ae-a897-51ce032b1b3c.html

A Liberal source, who spoke on condition they aren’t named, said Tory (Jr.) is looking to run in Blair’s riding, with discussion in Liberal circles and a media report suggesting the former cabinet minister could get a diplomatic posting abroad.

As much as I’d love to see Ana Bailao run again, I just don’t see it happening... and that’s a real disappointment. My gut tells me she runs as a Liberal in the 2029 Ontario election.

John Tory? He’s had his time. The last thing Toronto needs is yet another tired comeback attempt.

Marco Mendicino? Hard pass. He has to know his polling numbers would be brutal. Maybe he'll run for council?

Anthony Furey is a no-go. I bet he runs for the federal Tories in the next federal election.

That leaves Brad Bradford. If he runs - and if the centre and the right can actually get their act together - he could be the one candidate with a real shot at beating Olivia Chow. He’s not my first choice, but he might end up being the only viable one.

This ****ing clown. Clearly he didn't learn any lessons from getting trounced last time around since he's doubled down on the idiotic antics. Guaranteed no vote from me already.

I should run in my ward. Maybe not for councilor yet, but something entry level like trustee...

I thought I might as well start the thread now, as BradSquared announced on Youtube that he's running. I have no idea who Brandon Gomez is, but the Star and CityNews are reporting on it.

I suggest merging this with 2026 Mayoral Race

Due to Bradford Bradford’s persistence, I’ve truly become loathe-some of Bradford Bradford. It’s truly a case of “the more you get to know me the more you’ll hate me!” In my experience.

So my question is- from his prior campaign, his ongoing squawking, and whatever he’s been lipping on about lately. What are his key issues and how are they going to screw things up any more than they have been.

I feel like Olivia Chow, if anything, has operated too stealthily. The city is in no more collapse than it was years prior, but if there’s been a signature program or initiative that’s been gangbusters - I’m missing it.

Nonetheless, I hope she doesn’t run again. I feel like we need stronger progressive voices aaaaand- not ideas, but rather people who know how to sell them. Mamdani’s ideas weren’t radical or new, but he explained them better.

Of course- no clue who if anyone exists like that atm.

I do feel a bit like it’s a fools errand tho, seeing as Ford can and will thwart anything progressives could do. The real estate market and housing situation is based on factors far out of Toronto’s control, transit is a bunch of long term game already underway, and council can only tax and streamline.

i wonder if anybody who is from toronto can run for mayor

which means there could be hundreds of people from toronto who are the left the right and the center can run for mayor of toronto

In 2023 for the mayoral by-election there were 102 candidates on the ballot. Pretty much anyone could run for mayor as long as they fulfilled these requirements;
• A Canadian citizen
• At least 18 years of age
• A resident of the City of Toronto, or
• An owner or tenant of land in the City of Toronto, or the spouse of the owner or tenant
• Not legally prohibited from voting
• Not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office

Mayoral candidates also must submit a nomination paper with 25 endorsements of nomination, and pay a filing fee of $200
