social assistance.

Apparently the Ministry will appoint a 5-person panel to further study the idea this spring. (hmmm, do nothing til after an election??)

Now that O'Toole's been kicked to the curb, people are understandably speculating about what's next, and over in the Future of the Conservative Party thread, a few joking/semi-joking comments have been made about a certain bull-necked thug shoving his way into the upcoming race for new party leader. Whaddah y'all think?

Consensus seems to be that, at best, Ford's heading for a minority government in the next provincial election. He won't care for that, and we all know how ambitious he is. And even if he doesn't stand a chance, we all know how delusional he is. And given how crazy things are in the political sphere these days, where practically anything can happen, especially things that would have seemed unthinkable in a more stable political arena than what we're currently living through...I honestly don't know.

Ford arguably stole the PC leadership. He got fewer votes than his closest rival, Christine Elliott, and won fewer ridings. But because of a convoluted point system giving ridings different weight, Ford came out on top.

First point, him not speaking French or any ontario politician is very irrelevant, the same can be said for Quebec, you think Quebec voters care if the person they vote for can speak English? the answer is obvious.

Second point, thats a personal opinion, not a fact. Generally it's the other side who dislikes the current leader because it doesn't align with their political views.

True, up to a point but to form government in Canada you need some Quebec support and if a leader has no French they will not get it, from almost all Quebecers/Quebecois. Of course, Ford has many other reasons why many people, all over the country, will never vote for him!

The Prime Minister should be able to speak French. Ford is polling very low in Ontario, so fact, not opinion. Quebec and Ontario are two massive voting blocks. You don't take the country without them.
