King-Queen-Roncy Intersection/ROW

I wonder if the Sunnyside Yards have been considered for a Housing Now site.

It is a lot of land that you could potentially go pretty tall with (neighbours are a hospital and a highway), and I imagine that they should be able to figure out how to incorporate TTC maintenance operations and streetcar yard at-grade within a mixed-use development.
Oh, give it about a hundred years.

Currently, they are considering replacing the site of the old Dundas carhouse at Dundas Street West and Howard Park Avenue with a condo development. A hundred years after it was replaced by an ENLARGED Roncesvalles carhouse in 1923. (The original Toronto Railway Company's Roncesvalles carhouse site, which opened in 1897 and demolished in 1938, is now the Copernicus Lodge, next door. It was an empty lot for years before the lodge opened in 1979.)

The Lansdowne yard is still empty, after being demolished in 2003.

So much shooting the area weekly and what happen to the Sewer Lines that was to be built before the tracks being install??

All the concrete will be pour for the intersection as well on Queen St.

I see everyone has miss the off setting of tracks for King and Roncesvalles. Walking Roncesvalles to the site, the tracks look off set to the existing ones and must be seeing things. The southbound tracks for the intersection is about 1+ foot off set to the west and the northbound about 6 inches.

The king tracks are totally off set to the point you would think TTC is going to put the tracks in the south curb lane and then move it back to the centre at the bend to the east. Most likely a S connection for the new area to get back to the centre to match the current tracks.

Not much happening from Sunnyside Loop to Park Land other than traffic switching back and forth. All traffic is mostly in the eastbound lanes now..

I guess the next section to be done is connections to the yard and building the ROW up to Sunnyside Loop.

More up on site.

More up on site

They started to place the switches to the yard on the Queensway. Other than TTC crews and a crew working on the bridge, saw no one. Work has started on forming the new sidewalks on Queen. Lots of X on hydro poles on the Queensway and Queen.

Wondering if more of the overhead wiring will go underground? Leaving just the streetcar catenary wires.
Its a must not only here, but city wide. It bad having wires up for the OS, but these other wires make the street looking a mess. One only has to look at Spadina and Queens Quay before the ROW was built and what it looks like to see a better looking street without hydro wire and other wires that were attached to the poles in the first place.

Then we are talking Toronto Hydro who wants that las cent out of the system as well so slow doing the work in the first place. Council needs to order Toronto Hydro to do the work regardless saving money keeping these poles up like they did for St Clair ROW as well under section 37 when a developer is replacing a whole block or close to it. TTC has to install poles to support their OS in the first place.

I look to the day when TTC OS doesn't exist at all for a clean looking street. One reason I not happy seeing EMU trains in the rail corridors, but a must until they can use something else with the same or higher speed.

To "save gravy", Mayor Rob Ford made sure that Roncesvalles Avenue, when it was rebuilt, did NOT bury the overhead wiring, like they did on St. Clair Avenue West. Burying most wiring (electrical, cable, telephone fibe, etc.) is expensive in comparison to just putting them up on poles. Of course, they do that in new developments, but to suburban councillors burying them in the old "elitist" Toronto is an unnecessary "gravy".

The existing sidewalk and tracks for the Roncy yard are being replace at this time with a walkway on the new tracks and switches. All the the tracks and part of the new switches are fully pour to walk on. The base has been pour west of the switches with ties being place on it.

Some of the sidewalks on the east side of the intersection is pour with various poles being removed.

More of the existing sidewalk on the north side up to Parkside Dr has been removed with some forming for the new one underway.

When will TTC start changing the switches to meet the new fleet???

More likely until August, 2021. That's this year.
A lot later than that.

They have to rebuild the north side first before doing the south side. Traffic has to be move to the north side so they can remove the current turning lane onto King and most likely either close King off 100% or only having westbound traffic on King so TTC can build the S connection to the existing King tracks and the new Roncy tracks south of Queen that are miss match at this time.

Then there the rewiring of the intersection, tracks to the yard, Queen St and the new layout for King.

At this time, they trying to get the south gate rebuilt first as it will be needed first as well the track from the yard to loop buses first then the streetcars before start work on the north gate. Sunnyside loop and the new ROW still has to be done 100%.
