Yorkdale Subway Station Easier Access (Arc En Ciel Reinstallation)

First, the good news. Elevators and ramps going in for the Yorkdale Station to make it more accessible.

The bad news. The Yorkdale Station itself will be accessible. The steps in the overhead walkway to Yorkdale Mall, used to cross over the road into the mall, are still there. It's your turn, Yorkdale Mall to become more accessible.

The dinky little bridge needs to be replaced even more than the Eaton Centre bridge needed replacing anyway. Probably half of the mall's customers come through that bridge, and it will only increase with the Vaughan Subway extension - it needs a bit more respect.

Yeah, it's also tiny, nowhere near big enough for the passenger volume, and not being climate controlled is absurd--it probably goes up to about 45C in the summer with all of the glass, and goes sub-zero in the winter.

From the Nov 13 TTC Board Meeting:

Lowest bid Aplus - 16M. Also:
Contract A45-17 Easier Access Phase III –Yorkdale Station provides for the work related to the supply and installation of one elevator and one ramp for a barrier-free path from street level to concourse and then to platform level, as well as two escalator replacements and complete reconstruction of the north entrance area including the roof, wayfinding signage, automatic doors, and power upgrade. The station layout drawings describing this work are included in Appendix A.

The skylight remediation was included as a specified option and pending budget approval in the first quarter of 2018, a decision will be made on whether to proceed with the skylight remediation work.

I could be wrong, but don't commercial private properties also need to be AODA accessible at some point?

...or they could demolish that bridge completely. Like what happened with the Uptown Theatre. See link.

In 2001 new regulations mandated that the (Uptown) theatre be made wheelchair accessible. Famous Players balked at paying to estimated $700,000 expense (2001 dollars) and announced that they would be closing the cinema. The five screen cinema made little financial sense in the era of megaplexes, especially when the land it was on was worth millions of dollars. Despite community protests the cinema was closed on September 14, 2003 immediately after the 2003 TIFF. The last film to be shown there was Undead.

Where are these accessible entrances into the mall and how does one get there from the subway?

There is one west of the Yorkdale Rd entrance of the subway station, in the mall's newest expansion. Once the subway station is made accessible, one simply needs to exit the north end of the station, cross west and north at the intersection, then proceed west to the entrance.
