Today's Photo of the Day features a disused relic of infrastructure in Toronto's West Don Lands area. Submitted by Forum contributor Jasonzed, this drone-captured aerial faces west over the Don River and Don Valley Parkway (DVP) towards Corktown Common and the under-construction River City 3 development. In the foreground, the Old Eastern Avenue Bridge can be seen spanning the river. This bridge carried the old alignment of Eastern Avenue across the Don from its construction in 1933 to its 1964 closure, the DVP turned the bridge's eastern approach into a dead end. While the bridge is no longer in use, demolition was deemed more expensive than preservation, and the structure remains in place to this day. To the right of the disused bridge, a more modern concrete bridge remains in use by Enbridge Gas, carrying a major gas line over the river.
