Toronto's Outer Harbour East Headland, more commonly referred to as the Leslie Street Spit, was originally constructed to increase commercial shipping capacity of the harbour. Started in 1950 in anticipation of increased shipping from the planned St. Lawrence Seaway, the shipping traffic never materialized after the opening of the seaway, and the spit has since been used primarily for recreation and wildlife. Submitted to the Toronto Skyline Forum thread by contributor Razz, today's Photo of the Day features a beautiful sunset captured from the spit.
