We last checked in on the construction progress of Backstage on The Esplanade a few months ago when the first panels of limestone podium cladding were being applied to the base of the 36-storey, Page + Steele / IBI Group Architects-designed development in Toronto's Financial Core. The new condo tower, developed by Cityzen Development GroupFernbrook Homes and Castlepoint Numa, is now seeing some of the last of its finishing touches applied, with completion of the project imminent.

Over the past few weeks, mortar work has also been progressing on the podium's north face, sealing the main exterior expression of limestone in place. With practically all of the podium cladding installed, and the hoarding removed at street level, Backstage's completed street frontage is now apparent to passersby on The Esplanade.

The most visible ongoing progress along the tower's exterior involves the installation of porcelain tiles along the fins of the east and west facades. Mimicking the arrangement and tone of the limestone panels covering the podium volume, these porcelain tiles add an element of warmth to counterbalance the dark glass-clad exterior of the wider north and south facades.

Work is continuing for the Studio Munge-appointed amenity spaces within the building. The fifth floor amenity space recently had its floor finishes installed, as well as the staining of kitchen cabinets for the party room. One level above, the installation of 6th floor wall panels recently began, while installation of steam room tiling is now complete on the 7th floor. The installation of steam equipment is expected to follow during the coming weeks.

With pre-delivery inspections happening throughout the building, residents of Backstage on The Esplanade's 284 condominium units will soon their keys in hand. Once moved in, they will have access to a wide range of amenity spaces, including a rooftop garden with a 70-foot infinity pool, a private cinema with an adjoining bar, and a fitness and yoga studio.
