Little more than an ambitious vision back when Enterprise Drive was completed in 2005, Markham’s new purpose-built 243-acre mixed-use Downtown continues to evolve as new buildings are added to the fledgling cityscape. The latest component to enter into the burgeoning district—championed by the Remington Group—is The Signature, a mixed-use condominium and hotel project featuring a design by Quadrangle Architects.

The project features two sold-out condominiums, a 214-suite Marriott Hotel, and commercial office space, all anchored to the street by a collection of shops and restaurants featuring outdoor terraces. The newly-built streetscape will benefit from mid-block pedestrian connections including a landscaped courtyard, while an articulated massing breaks the building into multiple volumes to create a more engaging street presence.

The Signature began its ascent above grade back at the start of 2015, and in the year and a half since, the structures reached structural completion (March 2016), and have had much of their exterior cladding installed. In the image above, we see the current cladding progress of the taller mixed-use condominium and hotel, while a shot below highlights the progress of the much-further-along condominium to the east.

Once complete, the hotel will feature interior spaces appointed by II by IV Design Associates, while the condominiums will feature interiors by Bryon Patton & Associates. The entire development is targeting LEED silver designation.
