It has been a few months since we checked in on the status of BazisMetropia and RioCan's E Condos, a two-tower condominium development designed by Rosario Varacalli, soon to rise from the northeast corner of Yonge and Eglinton. Since the time of our last update, demolition of the TD Bank, the last remaining building on the original site, has been completed, allowing excavation of the full pit for the south tower to proceed.

Excavation has progressed down to about one level below grade, sloping gradually upwards to the north end of the site to meet the staging area on Roehampton Avenue.

The development site grew late last year, with the addition of an adjacent plot of land at 31 Roehampton, where demolition of the existing three-storey walkup apartment building on that property has since commenced. With many of the windows removed, interior demolition is ongoing.

The acquisition of 31 Roehampton led the developer to apply for an increase in the total number of units and floor area for the development. Those increases were approved by City of Toronto's Committee of Adjustment in November, so a redesign is now in the works for the north tower which will include 248 additional units, of which there will 35 rental replacement units for the apartment building on the site. While details are still being worked out for the north tower, we do know that the building will house approximately 450 units and rise to a height of approximately 112 metres.

Additional information and renderings can be found in our E Condos dataBase file, linked below. Want to get involved in the discussion? Check out the associated Forum threads, or leave a comment in the space provided at the bottom of this page.
