We are now getting our first glimpse at renderings for a new mid-rise condominium development at 2359 Danforth Avenue at Oak Park Avenue, located between Woodbine and Main subway stations, aptly named On the Danforth Condos. The ten-storey project by Diam Developments will feature a design by Onespace Unlimited, making use of stepped terraces that help transition the building down on the south side to the surrounding low-rise character of the neighbourhood.

The project is to rise on the south side of Danforth Avenue, next to a two-storey brick and stone Hydro building. Instead of trying to mimic the historic exterior, On The Danforth will address the Hydro building's character with a complementary tone of brick for the first few floors, before stepping back on the south side. Above the height of the neighbouring Hydro building, On The Danforth will utilize a darker shade of brick, broken up by large expanses of glazing.

Rod Rowbotham, architect at Onespace Unlimited told us “The change in brick colour breaks up the mass of the building. The contemporary asymmetrical design shall be created from traditional materials, which again, speaks to On The Danforth’s surroundings. The building's rises gives it a sense of movement, which is appropriate, considering On The Danforth is on the subway line. Just as transit moves people, in this case, the motion in the façade nods to transit inspiring the building’s movement.”

Interior spaces at On The Danforth have been designed by EsQape Design, following the building's exterior concept. “As soon as residents and guests open the door and step into the lobby, they will feel the excitement of this urban setting,” said Rowbotham. “The building’s amenity spaces shall integrate the outdoors with the indoors, which is something today’s condominium owners want. In this case, the top of the building faces south and contains a beautiful amenity space with outdoor terraces facing south and a balcony facing east. I call this providing democracy to view, because even suite owners who live on the north side of the building on a lower floor can come up to this area and look out over the city. Residents can also take their guests from the private dining room out onto a furnished terrace deck for additional entertaining opportunities.”

On The Danforth's 135 condominium units will be composed of one, two, and three-bedroom models with prices beginning from the mid-$200,000s. The development will also offer retail uses at grade, adding to a walkable stretch of Danforth Avenue with a Walk Score of 96 out of 100.

Details are still emerging about this new development, and we will return soon with more information about On The Danforth.
