Construction is progressing on The Station Condos, a 14-storey, SMV Architects-designed condominium development by Brandy Lane Homes in partnership with Shiplake Management Company and Wise Management Inc. Located on Wilson Avenue just east of Allen Road, the aptly named development is just steps from Wilson subway station.

Only a few years ago, this stretch of Wilson Avenue looked much different, when the site was home to a pair of low-rise commercial properties as seen in the 2011 Google Street View image below.

The development is having a pronounced effect on Wilson Avenue's aesthetic thanks to the strong streetwall formed by The Station and its neighbours to the east, the Gramercy Park condominium development. The Station's podium will bring 4,000 square-feet of new retail space to Wilson Avenue, which will provide the new residents of the area with convenience shops.

The Station's two mini-towers are making substantial progress, with the western side now topped off at 14 storeys and the east side following closely behind. A pale pastel blue spandrel cladding has also started to rise on the development, and we are waiting to see the installation of balcony glazing, which will complete the look.

Residents of the 388-unit project will have access to The Studio Club, a residents-only amenity floor with features including an indoor infinity-edge oasis pool, an indoor party room, large bar and catering kitchen, and an outdoor barbecue terrace with a fireplace. The amenity level also includes a games room, fitness centre, his and hers steam rooms, and additional outdoor lounge areas with barbecues, and outdoor furniture. Construction on the development is slated to wrap up later this year.

Residents of the condominiums along this stretch of Wilson Avenue can consider themselves the pioneers of a new neighbourhood. The area around Wilson subway station has long been underdeveloped, much of it taken up by poorly patronized surface parking lots of the subway station: parking for the subway has been less in demand here since the line was extended north. The next proposals for redevelopment adjacent to the Station Condos will replace some of those parking lots with further condominiums, expanding this new neighbourhood. Intensification of this kind is called for in the Province of Ontario's Places to Grow Act.
