Developer Canderel has released their initial marketing rendering for their latest condominium project, named YC Condos for its location on Yonge Street just north of College. Canderel is currently developing the 78-storey Aura Condos at College Park one block to the south, and was the developer of the adjacent Residences of College Park.
The design by Graziani + Corazza Architects alternates sections of fritted and tinted balcony glass to create a staggered black and white grille pattern on the building's four elevations. The podium of the building, to mainly be commercial office and retail space, picks up the rust colour of the brick in the adjacent 1892-built Oddfellows Hall in the tinting of the second and third storey windows. The ground floor facing Yonge Street will be retail spaces, while the residential lobby will be accessed from the revitalized lane on the west side of the building. Most of the residential amenity spaces will be found on top floor of the podium.
The building will rise 57 storeys, but an internet search will reveal that it is being mistakenly described as a 63-storey building by many real estate agents. The floor numbering in the building will skip 13, 14, 24, 34, 44, and 54 in deference to superstitions that some hold for those numbers.
