Every day here at UrbanToronto we are immersed and surrounded by the details and images of our rapidly growing city, not to mention the sounds of the city's construction itself. Next door to our office is the future site of Pure Plaza's Ivory On Adelaide. Set to rise 19 stories above this historic neighbourhood, Ivory is one in a number of projects currently transforming downtown's east side. From its beginnings as an industrial nieghbourhood centred around landmarks like the St. Lawrence Market (soon to see its own new addition) and the Distillery District (with new projects like Clear Spirit), this area of town is seeing a rebirth from its more-than-century-old roots.

We took some photos to update you on the progress of Ivory. A few days ago, the concrete was poured in preparation for the first crane that will carry this building into the sky.

Although we tragically lost the bike lanes along Jarvis Street to the west, the newly installed lanes running right by Ivory on Sherbourne Street are already being used and will certainly be a bonus to any prospective buyers who might have their eye on one of the 272 condo units that will sit on this site.

Below are a few more pictures from the same day.

And, finally, today we saw a lot of action as the crane rose to take its place on-site, contrasted nicely by a deep, grey sky.
