Cranes now rise above the site of Phase 1 of the Urban Capital Property Group's River City condominiums, while Phase 2 is prepared for its marketing launch. This southeast facing view shows them amidst the construction site beside the Don River where cars on the Richmond and Adelaide flyovers zip by.

River City are not the tallest new condominiums under construction in this city - and it is still the tallest new buildings that normally get the most attention on Urban Toronto - but they are amongst the most eagerly anticipated new condominiums in the city nevertheless. Why? Easy: River City's sexy, avant garde, modern architecture by Montreal-based Saucier + Perrotte has many readers more than a little excited.

You have seen the sleek knife-edged and black clad River City 1 renderings before, and hints of the cool white Phase 2 clustered towers too, but now we have more detailed renderings of Phase 2 to present.

Phase 2 will look squarely across the new landscaped berm to the Don River, and it does it with what appear as a series of stacked boxes, staggered to present an undulating modernist face on all sides of the building.

Crevices in the east and west façades split the building into three volumes, but it is a trick of the articulation. Above, one of the voids becomes the east entrance to the complex.

Meanwhile, some units have been rotated 90 degrees to bring interest to the northern and southern façades; that's the southern façade you are looking at below.

UrbanToronto has obtained high-resolution versions of these renderings, and now has 29 views to pore over in our dataBase listing of the building. The dataBase also gives you all of the information you need if River City appeals to you as a future home. Click on the link below to dig deeper!
