In a year or so's time, the building that has served as the Four Seasons Yorkville Hotel will be vacated as the hotel moves down the road to Bay Street. A question that many an UrbanToronto reader has asked themselves has been "what's next?" for that spot. At one point a pair of 40-storey-plus towers were planned to go up in its place, but this ignited a controversy over preserving the view corridor north past Queen's Park. Others did not want to see an existing 31-storey tower torn down, citing the waste of embodied energy, and a loss of 20th century Toronto history.

Current Four Seasons Hotel to become the New Residences of Yorkville Plaza, by Camrost-Felcorp

Camrost-Felcorp, new owners of the site, saw it that way too, and now the tower will not come down, but its interior will be remade for the 21st century as the New Residences of Yorkville Plaza. Situated at the heart of one of Toronto's most sought-after areas, the building aims to be the ultimate pied-à-terre address, along with two- and one-bedroom suites. The completely revamped floors will allow purchasers to chose from a collection of classically styled suites, honouring the Four Seasons heritage of the building, or contemporary international styled suites, depending on their taste. Both styles feature tailored kitchens with appliances integrated behind sleek cabinetry.

Down at ground level, the complex's podium will be remade in glass by WZMH Architects, the same firm that designed the 1971 project, as an animated and contemporary extension to Yorkville's famous shopping, dining and nightlife destination.
