Classic 905 entomology--referring to suburban nabes like this as villages.

Sorry guys, but there is 2 different threads in this one. 1907 and 1971 are 2 different projects and threads.

My posting on Walden Spinney is a block and a haft east of the 1971 location. Parts of the original Walden complex sits between the 2 developments and it was at the root of the opposition to the 1971 development.

I would not call it a village anymore based on what has happen over the last 15 years for this area.

According to the Clarkson Village Study presented Monday night at Planning and Development committee, this project is known as Richmann Seniors Housing, with a max 8 storey height. Names keep on changing.

This Clarkson Village Study needs to become a thread of its own, as it has major impact on a number of projects in the area, as well down the road.

So the sports bar and bistro will go in those first two larger floors facing lakeshore rd?

Village? Yeah sure. Do you start threads on projects in NYCC as being in the Village of Willowdale?

Actually, the stretch of downtown Clarkson located along Lakeshore is often referred to as Clarkson Village, or the village of Clarkson.....drum118 is correct..

Of course it is. Hurontario St. is also called Highway 10 by people. Typical "This-city-is-a-rural-township-in-disguise" 905speak.

Typical by-the-book misunderstanding of life's grey areas. So what if Hurontario is no longer officially Highway 10 through Mississauga and Brampton; not everyone knows about the downloading. It certainly has nothing to do with "rural township" anything. People don't consider highways to be mutually exclusive with city main streets. Most North American jurisdictions have maintained highway numbers through their cities. Ontario is one of the exceptions.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but not knowing about the downloading has nothing to do with calling Hurontario Hwy. 10. How many real cities have streets with highway numbers where people call them by highway numbers? How many people in cities think neighborhoods are villages in a distinct settlement, on-the-road-map sense?

The subconscious rural-township mentality is real for 905 cities, and here's proof:

Not so much as an ex-Metro city shown in Toronto.

Big deal. 'Real' city? Your definition of such based on a road map is bizarre. And why do you care, anyway? Your contemptuous attitude towards the 905 will do you no favours; it will convince no-one other than those who share the same shallow understanding of place, and will certainly not change anyone's understanding of the 'Village of Clarkson'.

Also, in regards to real cities, there's no reason that Weston or Long Branch or Leaside couldn't have been included within Toronto on the government map above. A decision made by one cartographer on whether or not to include a neighbourhood name does not necessarily reflect how locals refer to their corner of the world.
