TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I'm all for having better accessibility. And I advocate on this website that they should speed up the accessibility of subway stations (I don't think they will make the 2025 deadline and all the executive at the TTC should be fined to the full extent of the law for their ineptitude in not doing so).

The province enacted the accessibility law a long time ago with a transition period knowing that it takes time for execution. Having a streetcar network that is partially accessible is part of this plan. If you only can use a bus or Wheeltrans I don't see how that (1) violates the accessible plan and (2) why that infringes on your human rights.

People throw out the HRC for random purposes and it has really diluted the fundamental purpose of the tribunal. The TTC deciding that a busier route with more potential for usage of accessible transit is not the TTC trying to abuse your human rights. They are just trying to give more people access to transit that is accessible.
Yes, TTC has a plan, but MTO has the final say, since this is already 2 years late.
By the end of 2018, there will be cars on "ALL" TTC route regardless if they are not fully converted 100%.

The problem for 2018 year end, who is in power and will they follow their own MTO guild lines??

MTO change the timetable when all buses were to be lowfloor with a few exception some years ago. How each system roll out accessibly routes was left up to them, but must posted set times when an accessibly bus would arrive at the stops. MTO said this your deadline and we don't care how you meet it, but the accessibility community had the same right as all other rider to use the system.

3.4.1 Universal Design for Accessibility

Establish policies, practices and procedures for making transit accessible to all and capable of accommodating a range of daily transportation needs.

Most transit riders will experience some form of disability during their lives. Inaccessible transit facilities can make using transit difficult or impossible for people with mobility, visual or other disabilities. Designing transit systems for universal access provides people with disabilities more transportation choices and enables them to participate fully in their communities. Universal access can also help other transit users meet their daily needs, for example, shoppers with carts, parents with children in strollers, travellers with luggage, and the elderly. Meeting a greater range of transportation needs helps build transit ridership.

Making conventional transit more accessible requires a set of comprehensive measures that address the entire trip from getting to the transit stop to boarding to reaching the trip destination. Such measures include accessible vehicles, accessible bus shelters, bus stops and stations and transit information that can be understood by people of all abilities, including newcomers. Ontario’s Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) requires transit agencies to meet accessibility requirements under various standards, including the Accessible Transportation Standard and the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, Level AA. The Transportation Standard will require transit agencies to put in place a comprehensive set of measures, including accessibility plans, specific accessible transit vehicle equipment standards, accessible boarding and deboarding of vehicles, service improvements in specialize services, such as integrating accessible services between communities, hours of service, booking procedures and on-time pickup. Implementing best practices in transit accessibility improves transit service and can help transit agencies prepare for the Standard.

Wow...they are on a roll....2 consecutive months of making their delivery schedule hard on the heals of getting to their (many time revised) 2016 schedule right....maybe this controversy will calm down now that they seem to have learned the lesson that managing expectations is important ;)

By loading the schedule and have it year-end heavy (60+% of the delivery is in Q4)? I am not sure if that's managing expectations or setting it up for another epic-fail.

8 streetcars in one month (November 2017) is going to be fun to see. Wouldn't they need to order more flatcars for transport? Are the ones they used customized? Wouldn't CP have to cycle them back to Thunder Bay after the new streetcars are unloaded?

Round trip recently takes about 12 to 18 days. So about 2 a month. So probably need 4 cars, plus 1 for the Waterloo cars (presuming Eglinton is dead). Currenly, they've been using 3. So yes, they'd need 1 or 2 more. Not sure they are heavily customized. They'd known this for a long time, and presumably it's well under control.

They'll have 2 lines setup by that time. So it's only 4 that month on each line.

The ION vehicles won't be coming from TB by then. The line would been cleared off for TTC vehicles while the rest would be manufactured at Kingston (according to their plans). Eglinton, dead or not would be manufactured at Kingston anyways.

Hope they actually got their assembly line setup correctly. Supposedly they'll have frames and cabs manufacture somewhere else by then and thus reducing the remaining assembly at TB.
