New glass added to the east end of the north facade:
I think it was designed at a time when the ironic and whimsical early appeal of PoMo was still vaguely attainable to architects who were true believers - before the deadeningly dull historicist fauxmongers took over and extinguished all such possibilities.
Almost fauxPoMo, maybe?
All I see are copious numbers of ugly hydro and streetcar wires ruining the view.
In other news related to the new life that this stretch is gaining, I counted three of the homes deep in exterior renovations while walking by yesterday. One of them was having all its windows removed. The Art Café (Crepe place) also saw some recent cosmetic additions to its façade.
I have no doubt that the owners of those homes will either improve them themselves or sell them off to eager developers who want to cash in on the new spotlight they'll be granted with the AGO and its Galeria Italia across the way.
The good news is that the predominant new usage is for independent galleries and patio space, a perfect compliment to the AGO. Visitors to the AGO will no doubt want to hop over to the smaller galleries after seeing the masterpieces at the AGO.
That building's not on the edge of a style change - it's just what happened when some architect digested what he'd seen in a couple PoMo architectural reviews, and then involuntarily crapped out a building. No other explanation is possible.

I actually like that faux chateau looking building... not just on its own, but how it contrasts with the University Ave office blocks behind it. I guess they could have done without the flesh coloured section though.
Incidentally, that Village By The Grange sign also caught my eye--I presume it's original, and taken pretty much for granted perhaps even by the property owners. (As signage goes, I prefer the LuCliff lettering.)
Additional seating throughout gallery spaces.
