Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Yipee! They're cutting the useless Renforth Drive (not to be confused with Renforth Gateway), Rangoon and Russell/Eden Valley stops. I would have kept the East Mall though. Now if only Lloyd Manor, Wincott and Mulham would get the axe; then we'd have a true subwaylike service on Eglinton West.

Here are the explanations as to why these stops are being removed.

Renforth Drive: located in a relatively isolated area, separated from the nearest residential community by a hydro corridor and Eglinton Avenue. Other existing transit services already serve this community, including the TTC's 112 West Mall bus and a number of MiWay services. A stop at Renforth Drive is not required to provide network connectivity due to its proximity to the nearby Commerce Boulevard stop, which would already connect to the terminus of the Mississauga Transitway and form part of the Renforth Gateway Mobility Hub. Transfers currently occurring at Renforth Drive are expected to shift to the Renforth Gateway, the future terminus of the Mississauga Transitway.

Rangoon Road: would be in a relatively isolated location in an area that is not planned for transit-supportive densities of people and jobs. There is an existing stop on the 32 Eglinton West bus that has very low usage. Including this stop location would require implementing an additional traffic signal to allow for transit users to safely cross Eglinton Avenue to access the LRT platform, introducing a source of delay for traffic. The existing 112 West Mall bus passes through the neighbourhood. There are also MiWay services on this part of Eglinton Avenue West, however they are currently restricted from picking up passengers. Service integration options should be explored. Other alternatives for serving the adjacent Eringate-Centennial-West Deane community with local transit will also be explored by the TTC for connections to the Commerce Drive LRT stop.

The East Mall: would be located in a relatively isolated area because of the surrounding road network and Mimico Creek. There are currently only 100 residents within walking distance (500m) of this stop location and there is very little potential for future development and intensification. The design of this stop would also be challenging given the existing intersection geometry and configuration of the 401/427/Eglinton Avenue interchange. Approximately 250 trips per day make use of the stop on the 32 Eglinton West bus currently. The 111 East Mall bus serves the stop location and would connect to the Eglinton West LRT at Martin Grove Road.

Russell / Eden Valley: this stop is not likely to be well used because the surrounding area has relatively low population density and limited potential for development and intensification, and does not provide any transfer opportunities for connecting surface routes. At the same time, a lack of connecting surface routes means that this stop is the only access to transit for the surrounding community. Ridership on the LRT at this location is expected to be relatively high (near the peak ridership of this section of the line), meaning that the added time required for the vehicle to stop would delay many more people than would benefit from the usage of the stop itself. This negative impact could be mitigated if the line operated on a request-stop basis (and the vehicle only stopped if a rider wanted to get on or off). A request-stop service is preferred. If a request-stop operation is not possible on the LRT, the TTC will explore options for rerouting a local bus route to maintain adequate transit coverage for this community. A recommendation regarding the inclusion of this station will be made in Q2 2017 based on the feasibility of operating the LRT as a request-stop service or providing local bus service to this location.

Grade Separations: Up to five grade separations are being considered to mitigate impacts to traffic and improve transit operations.
• Martin Grove Road
• Kipling Avenue
• Islington Avenue
• Royal York Road
• Eglinton Flats

I doubt that the East Mall bus would be cancelled. If this is the case, then everyone on the bus has to simply go 1 extra stop to reach Martin Grove and transfer to the ECLRT. The stop only helps those right on the SW corner of East Mall/Eglinton - because the other 3 corners of that intersection have nothing.

I hope "Eglinton Flats" includes Scarlet. The above list includes every other intersection along the route and it would be a real joke if they grade-separated all but 1 intersection.

It does.

And it's unlikely that all 5 will be grade separated; only the ones that would introduce significant delay.

Good thing is that it'll be under construction before Tory completes his presumable second term. Bad thing is that we have to wait at least 4.5 years.
"Until AT LEAST 2021" I know everyone wants to point the faults out of TC but the thing is that two of the lines would have been done by now. Of course the Liberal government has a part to play allowing the flip flopping but also by giving the money out in chunks instead of a lump sum. However this is becoming increasingly frustrating especially when we see all the new lines having their own design problems as well. Essentially there is no perfect plan but can we just get to building already instead of lying to ourselves that if we study these things longer that sooner or later we will come up with a plan that has 100% consensus.

Well I'd think that consideration would be given to the Flats for more than just 'delay'; they're low and flat, prone to flooding. Also, a seamless connection to Jane LRT (cause that is still gonna be built, right guys?!).

If Toronto now has to pay for operational costs then all the more reason to elevate the DM to Kennedy section so the trains can be run automatically.

IF city of Toronto is willing to pay for it as Onatrio has no interest in funding it. What we are hearing is: sure TO, if you want it we'll let you add the extension to our line. The rest is for you to figure out.

Unless TO pays for that too. It's a few billion dollars and would never be worth it over the 30 year span.

The statement of the mayor Mississauga on providing funding for Crosstown West:

"While we support...regionally-integrated transit...have to make sure that there is a business case to support Mississauga’s participation"

She doesn't sound enthusiastic about it. Which is fine, imo. Terminate it at Renforth. There wasn't much usage expected west of there anyways. I wouldn't want to pay for it if I were Mississauga.

Just received some info that I request some weeks ago about the Airport Transit Hub. Its an ongoing process with a number of players that going to take a number of years to get a clear sense what will happen at the end of the day.

The one question that is up in the air is the fare integration. Since the airport is in Mississauga and this line is to be an TTC operation, what fare do riders pay to get to/from the airport from/to Renforth terminal???

There is no set timetable for the Airport Transit Hub, as well who will lead the development and the funding of it at this time.

As it stands today, you have the GTAA, TTC, Mississauga, Metrolinx, developers and the Province as the main players. The GTAA is driving this process, but there are various developers pushing it as well. At the end of the day, will it benefit employees working in the area?? Quality of service will have an impact on everyone.

There is a vision to run the line over the 401, west of the 427 that will be built as an BRT as part of Mississauga Transitway with provision to be converted to LRT to the Enfield. It will travel to the Transit Hub on the south end of Terminal One. All service will go through the Renforth Terminal regardless if BRT or LRT.

The one recommendation I have made to deal with both the fare integration and moving riders is that the ROW from the Renforth Terminal to the Airport be both LRT and BRT, using the same ROW. Easy to do, but the BRT will do more wear and tear on it.
