Toronto 88 Scott Street | 203.9m | 58s | Concert | P + S / IBI

I'm not terribly impressed by these new renderings. It's basically one step above Aura design wise. You can tell the developer is stuck in the Vancouver DRP conservatism. I think many of you posting on here don't realize that when us real Torontonians walk around our 'hoods we never consider skylines, shapes of buildings etc. We do appreciate beautifully-crafted contextual details, which sadly is lacking here. It could be that sitting in your suburban mansion there's not much to see other than skyline porn on your computer monitor?
 
The new rendering doesn't seem that different from the old rendering or am I missing something?

re: debate about location..if not tall here, then tall where? And it is 58 storeys not 70. What matters is how it meets the street here..so far seems pretty good.

It's a massive building with a ton of office space. Pretty sure it is here to stay. It also replaced the parking lot which replaced the board of trade and others. (which is likely the most overated lost building out there) It was designed to the point of tackiness, IMO.


I just don't see the development team pulling off 88 Scott without a lot of spandrel glass and possibly even grills replacing some of the punched windows in the rendering. As much as some ride aA for their simplistic forms, they have proven to be one of the very few that can carry a design from the inside out with few compromises. Maybe simple is best considering the tight budgets in condo development and the large number of subdivisions even on the smallest floorplate.
 
I quite like the set-backs and skyboxes, and the massing for the podium seems appropriate for the area. I wish they had done something more stylish or interesting for the podium however, seems a bit run-of-mill considering it's context. It looks better suited for Bremmner rather than for an area that already has some character, this seems like a missed opportunity being across from the park and amidst some historic buildings.

I am hoping for a day to see a really tall building that "doesn't meet the street" kinda like Sharp Centre for Design at OCAD U. This one doesn't do it... because it honestly and actually meets the street.

I'd rather have something like this in the city than the likes of Karma. (assuming materials and quality are the same)

The podium:confused:......What more than you want than them keeping the old facade and a bit of history.

this is an important building in terms of skyline. it'll finally push the skyline east past yonge... scotia plaza just kills the skyline then and there to the east.
 
I like the retail and added office space. The ground level appears much more pedestrian friendly than described in the original.

The roof does seem to be weakened, but now it matches the non-glass portion of the mid-section of the building, which I think creates a better symmetry in design.
