Rob Ford's Toronto

Neither of the Ford's would ever go toe to toe in a debate with anyone. Each one is woefully inarticulate, to the extent that it's embarrassing to watch. When you add to the mix that they get frustrated when arguing a point, they become train wrecks happening before our very eyes. We've all seen how uncomfortable Rob Ford is when speaking. Hell, even when he isn't speaking, but on camera, his discomfort is on display when he stares at the ceiling. Doug can at least hold a conversation, but, it has to be on a most basic level, and is usually punctuated by over the top smiling or, at the other extreme a furrowed brow and barely controlled anger. I find it fascinating to witness the extent to which they crave attention. I truly believe that the two have personality disorders.

I'd like to suggest that the Ford Brothers' Radio Show is an excellent improv practice opportunity for drama students and aspiring comedians. Their task will be to call the show in the guise of enthusiastic members of Ford Nation, get the Fords giddy on unquestioning support, and draw them into making ill-thought statements. Pretend to be a resident in Karen Stintz's (or John Parker's or James Pasternak's) ward looking for advice on how to start work on unseating them now. Complain about the naked men on Church St., claim that heterosexuals couldn't get away with that, seek agreement that you wouldn't see Tim Tebow marching in a parade of heathens. Express concern that only Georgio is properly attentive to the Communists working to undermine the city. Suggest a worry that the Fords might be going soft when they speak of parking TAXES! to pay for subways.

Didn't David Miller and Mel Lastman have a TV call-in show on CityTV?

Who wants to start a pool: How many weeks / days / hours will one of the Fords blows a fuse and the whole show is axed?

If the show is as one sided as I think it's going to be, as in propaganda, I suspect the CRTC will probably get enough complaints to suspend 1010's broadcast license.

The St. Lawrence Heighbourhood Association sent me this petition today about the firing of Gary Webster. I just signed it, and you are welcome to sign too. You'll see the details if you click on the link below.

"Toronto City Councillors Minnan-Wong, Di Giorgio, Kelly, Palacio, and Crisanti must be removed from the TTC board."
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/...utm_source=system&utm_campaign=Send+to+Friend

If you do choose to sign, you can close the iPetitions window as soon as it says your signature is recorded if you don't want iPetitions to hit you for a donation to their website (their default donation is $25, minimum is $2).

You bet I do. I've had enough of the Fords and their goons screwing up our town. I'll leave it at that so I don't write about those @#%&!! all day.

Thanks for the welcome. I've been busy in the Market Wharf threads for a long time, but now I'm exploring some of the other downtown stuff.

Queen's Park wades in...

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news...-transportation-minister-says/article2348783/

“In Ontario, the mayor's role is to demonstrate leadership and consensus building,” said Transportation Minister Bob Chiarelli, a former Ottawa mayor. “The best mayors are the ones who are facilitative in nature.”

http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/...r-toronto-s-failure-on-transit-expansion?bn=1

“The best mayors are ones that can be facilitative in nature, because they do not have the power. No mayor in Ottawa or Kitchener or the city of Toronto can do things on their own. They need endorsement from council,” he said.

“That’s the reality. That’s the difficulty and challenge of being a mayor in Ontario — that you’ve got to build consensus, you’ve got to be able to get the votes at council. That’s your job — to lead by building consensus and moving forward. That’s the type of system we have.”

http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/0...explain-torontos-dearth-of-new-rapid-transit/

“I have always respected the will of Council,” Mr. Chiarelli said. “Only City Council can sign contracts. The province needs a partner in the TTC and a partner at City Hall.”

http://www.torontosun.com/2012/02/24/transit-decision-councils-responsibility-chiarelli-says

“It would be fair to say it’s an admission of failure on the part of this city council, the whole administration, the mayor’s office and city council, if they say, ‘We can’t do our job, bail us out,’ ” Chiarelli said after a breakfast speech to the Toronto Board of Trade.

With luck, Ford will go along on his typical manner and utter newsworthy stupidity. The only possibility from this radio program in unintended entertainment.

Mammoliti has started a facebook page, asking the complex question:
"Let us Know What You Want - Subway or LRT or Other" (without question mark).

http://www.facebook.com/events/304098096320683/

I see the lovely folks from the "I Hate The War On Rob Ford" page have shown up already, proposing firing city staff to help pay for a line. (Of.. er, Subway).
