Restaurant Comings & Goings

IMG-20110925-00740-1.jpg

Lee Chen Asian Diner is opening next to Big Smoke Burger on Yonge, north of Bloor soon. Any idea what kind of Asian restaurant this is? Another pan-Asian place or something different (hoping for a cha chaan teng to open outside of the Chinese malls or Chinatown, but somehow I doubt this is one of them).

Just tried this place. Food isn't bad. It isn't a cha chaan teng (Hong Kong diner), but serves Shanghainese style dumplings as well as bubble tea and other Asian imported drinks.

There's a new restaurant/bar called The Playpen just opened in that seedy little mall on the north west corner of Gerrard and Carlaw.

I want to try that new "gourmet" fish and chips place that's been open for a month or two on the east side of Broadview just south of the Danny - anyone been?

Panera Bread is indeed confirmed to replace the former Levis store on Yonge Street near Dundas Square. Panera Bread signs are posted on the fascade.

Popular Toronto event caterers, The Food Dudes are opening a "dining lounge" this December at 401 King St West (former Shoeless Joe's and m:brgr location).

That is the building immediately north of the Senator....right?

Vittorio's is moving to the former Ceno location on Avenue Road. Ceno didn't last too long, did it?

Anyone in the St. Lawrence Market hood have the scoop on this?

Application: Building Additions/Alterations Status: Under Review

Location: 71 FRONT ST E
TORONTO ON M5E 1T9

Ward 28: Toronto Centre-Rosedale

Application#: 11 307570 BLD 00 BA Accepted Date: Nov 9, 2011

Project: Restaurant Greater Than 30 Seats Interior Alterations

Description: Convenience address is 73A Front St E. Application to convert 2 existing restaurants more than 30 seats to one restaurant greater than 30 seats and add new mezzanine. Jack Astors.

Near as I can tell, 71 and 73 Front St East are the Jersey Giant pub and the Tim Horton's/Wendy's combo. Are both being replaced by a Jack Astor's? Surprised Tim's would give up that location, but it is a bit awkward and dated so perhaps they have their eyes on a newer space in one of the nearby developments (Market Street or Berczy Condos, maybe?) Sad to see the Jersey go if that's the case, though: I quite like their food though they have an ongoing musty-carpet-smell issue that is problematic.

"Cream Lounge" appears to be brand new at King & Portland above Lou Dawg's Sandwiches. www.creamlounge.ca

Their website has a truly awkward "About Us" section containing numerous errors ("well healed") and missing punctuation. It looks like it was written by a realtor. They really should have used a proofreader for all the money they must have spent on this place...

Also, "diamond in the rough" lmao.

Oh my. Even on the scale of restaurant web pages, which are generally awful, this one is bad.
To be fair though, "well healed" may be intentional for their douchetastic clientele. As in they only let in girls if they are wearing expensive shoes!
