Lotus (Yonge & Davenport, Shiu Pong, 16s, Northgrave) COMPLETE

DSCN1819.jpg

this is a great pic! that MTV building (Masonic Temple) has always made this intersetion cool, especially at night when its all lit up and to see Lotus almost finished on the southwest corner its looking even better. Davenport is starting to look like a mini canyon too...

All those billboards on the south side of the intersection have GOT to go. Tres tacky! Councillor Rae says he tried to get rid of them but was outvoted. Give up money? Qu'el horreur! (He said he would try again sometime.)

What's wrong with billboards? They generate additional money for the landlord and additional tax revenue for the city. How does that possibly offend you?

what a waste of space.... I didn't hate it until the glass.... the off-centre, Square podium is just.... yeah.

Fie, but it's a lump.

It would have been great to see the allotted base of the building extended right towards Yonge Street so we might have gotten a more elegantly proportioned 'Flatiron' shape that would have also added to the streetwall.
Even still, the developer managed to make a mud pie out of a sow's ear. The site as exists was none too special, but the location was prominent...it cried out for something more than a dull precast bromide with an inverted pie tin on top.

This is like a mini-version of Mosaic.

Remove all the construction clutter, plant a few trees in the park upfront and maybe, maybe, I could ignore this building (and not hate it).

Indeed, great observation... and then that would have also solved the construction clutter / billboard problem too.... and the potential pigeon problem if that last photo is any indication.

c'mon, in this neighbourhood, thats an upturned ramekin, surely?

Ive never heard that word before, but the tone of your language is hilarious!

Regardless of the fact that the site was rather small, they did manage to put up a building that appears really chunky.

And just when one was getting tired of glass, along comes some precast that makes one yearn for a tall, shiny, all-glass point tower.

There's a aluminum pie plate up top.

Thanks for all the great updates CSW2424.
