I understand the Canadian Tire Express on the Danforth closed. What happened there, @Tuscani01?

It wasn't doing well the last time I saw sales numbers. No surprise considering it wasn't a great location to begin with. Stay tuned, the urban concept isn't being scrapped just yet!

The business Target couldn't touch is still powering through the tough retail market - 2016 sales up 8%, Q4 same store sales up 9% alone!:

"Canadian Tire profit rises 10 per cent as same-store sales surge

Same-store sales, a key measure of retail performance tallying volume at locations open for more than a year, rose 8.1 per cent at its Canadian Tire retail stores compared with the same quarter of 2015. At its FGL Sports division, same-store sales rose 5.1 per cent, and were up 10.8 per cent at Mark’s."

Leslie/Lake Shore has its grand reopening tomorrow. It’s looking fantastic!

More CT news - The banner now includes stores in Norway:

Canadian Tire is buying Norway-based sportswear company Helly Hansen for nearly $1 billion.

The iconic retailer said Thursday it will pay $985 million and assume $50 million of the debt of the Norwegian firm, which makes various types of clothes for active living and other outdoor gear.

That's the brand they sell in Marks, right?

Leslie / Lake Shore is definitely the best in the city, in terms of what I have visited. Certainly the best in the general downtown area. Bay/Dundas is way over cramped and Church/Yonge always seems very run down and dowdy. Leslie/Lake Shore is large, airy, has nice covered parking (great for crappy weather days), and lots of other services in the plaza that you can stop by when you are there.

Is Marks a successful store? Any time I go into any location it seems empty. Mind you, I'm usually there during 'working' hours.

my understanding is that they tend to do better in smaller more rural markets - I can't imagine they do well in any downtown markets as there isn't really a large market for what they sell.

I've bought my last 2 pairs of work boots at Mark's.

And when I had a project in Winnipeg a few years back I went to Mark's to stock up on cold weather clothing.

They are the most mainstream store in Canada for work wear

Yea Marks is pretty good for work wear or general gear. Socks. Prices seem higher than they used to be. Maybe they jacked things up since people use their work insurance there.

Interesting CT buying HH. They've been around for awhile, and 20yrs ago they were very hot items for skiing or flashy jackets. Like North Face.
